Sixteen of our schools have earned statewide honors in recognition of exceptional student success in mastering core academic skills! The Literacy Leader and Math Leader honors recognize schools for exceptional student achievement, growth, or both on the annual Georgia Milestones Assessment end-of-grade or end-of-course assessments. Fourteen CCSD schools are among the 479 statewide to be named 2024-2025 Math Leaders, with three CCSD schools among the 406 honored statewide as 2024-2025 Literacy Leaders. Congratulations to our teachers and support staff for their dedicated work with our students to achieve this success and thank you to our School Board for its laser focus on ensuring our students are learning more, growing more, and achieving more in our classrooms than they could anywhere else! Our students are learning more, growing more and achieving more in our classrooms than they could anywhere else! Each school day, we celebrate one student nominated for their excellence by a teacher. Today’s Student of the Day is Free Home Elementary School fifth-grader Reese Dumas! She was nominated by Principal Julie Peppers: “Reese Dumas is a true role model who elevates excellence in our school each day. She arrives eager to learn, shows a consistently positive attitude, and treats her peers with kindness and respect. She is always responsible and hardworking. Reese gives her best in everything she does. We are thankful Reese is a Free Home Rocket!” #CCSDElevateTheExcellence

A CCSD elementary school for the second consecutive year has earned national recognition for physical education programs! Free Home Elementary School is one of only 1,120 schools nationwide to be named to the America’s Healthiest Schools list. Published by Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a national children’s health organization, the list celebrates schools that support the health of students, staff and families. Congratulations to PE teacher Coach Keith Furstenberg and Principal Julie Peppers and thank you to our School Board for its longtime investment in our PE programs! Cherokee County School Board members got a peek inside the new Free Home Elementary School today, with a tour of the replacement school that is nearing completion in east Cherokee, slated to open in August. School Board Vice Chair Patsy Jordan and board members Chance Beam, Erin Ragsdale and Dr. Susan Padgett-Harrison were guided around the new school by members of the district’s Support Services team. The school, which was completed on time and under budget -- and without use of bonds or borrowed funds in keeping with the School Board’s dedication to strong financial stewardship, will replace the aging Free Home Elementary on Highway 20. We look forward to welcoming the public to an open house event later this spring as we celebrate the continuation of nearly 120 years of a Free Home School in the community! We soon will share details of the open house event on our social media and website. #CCSDElevateTheExcellence
