It’s been a while, but this fight will never stop. A few days ago marked one year since a judge stripped Michael Allen of the right to call his children. Those restrictions have since been lifted, but the damage was done. The trauma of that separation affected Michael and his children deeply, and those relationships have never been the same. Before we move forward with new content, here’s everything you need to know about this case and why it is far from over. Part 7 drops soon. #JusticeForMichaelAllen #WrongfulConviction #FortWayne #JudgeGull #NicholasPodlaski #Podlaski

Time to get back into telling this story. #JusticeForMichaelAllen #WhatHappenedToKaivonni #VictimsOfFranGull
Today marks 5 whole years since Kaivonni’s passing. This day carries weight. A child passed away, and that loss will always matter.
While time has moved forward, for many, the questions have not. There are still things that do not make sense. There are still concerns about how this case was handled. There are still pieces that feel unresolved. Because of that, grief has never had the space to simply be grief.
Michael has not been able to mourn his daughter privately or peacefully. Each year has been overshadowed by accusations, courtrooms, and an outcome he maintains does not reflect the full truth.
This does not feel like justice.. Not for him and definitely not for Kaivonni.
Today, her life is remembered. The loss is acknowledged. Though the pain is still there for all, the commitment to seeking truth remains.True justice should bring clarity, not lingering doubt. That pursuit will not stop.

Today marks the anniversary of Gideon v. Wainwright, the Supreme Court decision that recognized that in criminal cases, the right to counsel is not a luxury, it is a constitutional necessity.
That right is supposed to mean more than simply having a lawyer’s name on paper. It is supposed to mean meaningful representation, communication, preparation, advocacy, and a real defense.
In Michael Allen’s case, serious concerns have been raised about whether that right was truly honored. Michael repeatedly told the court he was dissatisfied with his representation, stated that important communication and case access issues existed, and made clear that he felt forced to fight for his own life without the kind of defense the Constitution was meant to guarantee and was ultimately punished for that.
The right to counsel is one of the foundations of a fair trial. When that right is weakened, ignored, or reduced to the bare minimum, justice is put at risk.
Today, as we reflect on Gideon v. Wainwright, we are reminded that the right to counsel should mean effective representation, not just having a lawyer assigned to your case.
Because the right to an attorney should mean the right to a real defense.

PART 6 (3 of 3):
“We Reserve the Right to Decline Sharing Information.” Says attorney Nicholas Podlaski about those reaching out to assist Michael at trial.
After Michael spoke up in court about his lack of defense, he didn’t get a strategy meeting. He got a letter from his attorney, Nicholas Podlaski, formally shutting down communication with Michael’s support system.
They called the public advocacy “harassment.” But let’s be clear: Michael was in jail. He couldn’t email. The “harassment” was simply his family and the public asking why his attorney wasn’t doing his job.
This created a lose-lose situation: If Michael stayed silent, he went to trial defenseless. If he spoke up, his attorney threatened to cut off communication.
Michael Allen faced life in prison, and he was forced to fight the State and his own counsel at the same time. This is not justice.

Judge Fran Gull, the Judge presiding over Michael’s case, announced today that she is retiring to “relax, spend time with family, and play with her grandchildren.”
Must be nice.
Michael Allen doesn’t get to relax. He doesn’t get to spend time with his family. He doesn’t get to play with his children. He doesn’t even get the chance to properly grieve the loss of his daughter, Kaivonni.
She gets a pension and a peaceful exit. Michael gets a prison cell for a crime science shows he did not commit.
Retirement does not wash away a legacy of wrongful convictions. You can leave the bench, but you cannot escape the truth. We are still here, and we are still fighting.
I see a lot of celebration, and I understand why. But what also worries me is this: her daughter works in the prosecutor’s office. Maybe that means nothing. Maybe it does. In systems like this, power rarely disappears. It just moves hands.

Michael Allen is another casualty of Judge Gull's Court.
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” — Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 👏🏾
This quote hits different this year. We like to think the fight for civil rights and true justice is something in the history books, but when you are fighting a wrongful conviction, you realize the war isn’t over. The battlefield just looks different now. It looks like ignored evidence. It looks like “expert” opinions that don’t match the science. It looks like a system designed to close cases to keep up their conviction rate rather than find the truth.
Fighting for Michael isn’t just about one man; it’s about refusing to accept a system that gets it wrong and looks the other way. Dr. King’s work isn’t finished until “justice” actually means justice for everyone, including Michael Allen.

The carols say “Silent Night,” but silence is the enemy of injustice.
Wrongful convictions rely on silence. They rely on the community staying quiet, looking the other way, and accepting the “conviction” even when it’s flawed. They rely on us forgetting about the men and women spending the holidays behind concrete walls away from their kids and families.
This Christmas, we refuse to give the system that satisfaction. We are breaking the silence for Michael Tyrone Allen Jr.
Because the reality is heavy: This is ANOTHER Christmas he has missed with his kids. Another Christmas missed with his FAMILY.
While the world celebrates, Michael remains separated from the people who love him most. The system has stolen this time, but we refuse to let it steal his voice or our determination.
To everyone supporting Michael: Thank you for not being silent. Thank you for taking the time to read beyond the madeup headline pushed by a system ready to silent him.

PART 6 (2 of 3):
When your lawyer threatens to sue you for speaking about his failures as an attorney.
The timeline doesn’t lie. For months, Michael Tyrone Allen Jr. begged for discovery and updates on his case while sitting in jail. He was met with silence.
On April 24th, advocates posted online asking for help because Michael hadn’t seen his discovery.
On April 25th, less than 24 hours later, Nicholas Podlaski finally emailed. Not to discuss strategy, but to threaten a lawsuit for “tortuous disparagement.”
Michael responded with desperation, not anger: “ need an advocate. I need communication. I need a defense.”
Four days later, Michael had to stand up in court and tell the judge himself that his lawyer wasn’t working. The system is broken when a defendant has to advocate against their own attorney just to get a fair trial.
