This is a good summary. As one of the lawyers who led the pushback against the mandatory DEI statement of principles, it’s obvious that this proposal is designed to prevent lawyers like me from ever organizing against an unpopular policy again.
And yes, I do take it personally.

Regardless of the results of the law society bencher elections, to be released shortly, I am proud of my @FullStopTeam mates who stood up and endured the slings & arrows of a nasty campaign, giving the profession an alternative to the ideological capture of our legal regulator.

.@FullStopTeam campaigned to very last minute, including writing many articles on what will happen to #ONpoli legal profession if #woke, elitist "Bencher Good Governance Coalition" wins @LawSocietyLSO election.
No one can say that you didn't warn them.

We are not colluding with candidates. We are an independent group asking that the regulatory body for legal professionals regulate in the public interest. We are that public and we are concerned.

A story of secret documents and obfuscation. Add to it the recent revelations of secret board meetings. Time for some transparency at the Law Society of Ontario.
FS's Klippenstein: "The LSO at first denied that I was a director. Then the LSO said that it's up to the benchers as a group to decide by majority vote what information an individual director should get. That doesn't seem to be the law as I understand it." lawtimesnews.com/resources/p…

Done!
Thank you for standing up for the rank-and-file lawyers, who just want to practice law and not be forced to fund a politically-motivated organization.
All lawyers are free to support political and social causes of their choice on their own time/dime.

Barbara Kay: Much Weighs on the Outcome of the Ontario Law Society Election.
"The importance of this particular election for members of the legal profession—and even, potentially, their clients—cannot be overstated."

"If one prefers to turn Osgoode Hall back into a clubhouse for self-important people, by all means, vote for the GGC. If lawyers want to preserve self-governance for mere mortals, they are free to vote FullStop."

New from my @FullStopTeam colleague, Andrej Litvinjenko, on our pivotal law society election. Those from Eastern Europe tend to understand the current moment better than most:
"I fled to Canada from the former Yugoslavia: a failed state that erupted into civil war in the 90s. We had become obsessed with the siren song of “diversity and inclusion” a decade prior. Ethnic and religious quotas became vogue. The economy worsened; we doubled down. Each side claimed “systemic discrimination” by the others. Unscrupulous politicians exploited these shallow differences to bloody effect. For my daughter’s sake, I must safeguard her against these dangers." canadianlawyermag.com/news/o…

SHOULD: all LSO salaries over $200,000 be subject to public disclosure? Do Members have a right to know how their dues are being spent? In May 2022 Benchers Charette/Lyon brought such a motion - it seems to have been "shelved". Vote @FullStopTeam 4 transparency/accountability

not sure how @canlawmag can run this nonsense. (the author actually compares the @FullStopTeam slate running for @LawSocietyLSO benchers to…tucker carlson). Stop SOP took over in 2019 to end LSO’s creepy compelled-speech DEI gambit (& did so). Ont lawyers shd vote accordingly
We need to stop the FullStop. Their divisive campaign has only brought chaos and division to the LSO, writes Michael Spratt of @AGP_Law.

In this podcast, I discuss why the StopSOP movement was necessary & why the job’s not finished. We need a neutral legal regulator that doesn’t police our views and values. youtube.com/live/M3HpDuVV7wM…

This is a ridiculous elitist line of attack. I have never heard of @KaraOntario before but guaranteed I'm voting for her now.

What’s at stake in the bencher election? If lawyers want a regulator that sticks to protecting the public from things like fraud & incompetence, they’ll pick @FullStopTeam. If they want a bigger regulator that also enforces things like EDI ideology, they’ll pick the other slate.
