I’ve said for some time that I believe the next major chapter of African innovation will come from capital markets funding the economic activity of the continent.
We’ve made enormous progress moving money across borders, yet the liquidity behind those payments remains constrained. The same problem extends across our economies. Africa needs financing for trade, housing, energy, infrastructure and growing businesses, while global investors need assets they can buy, hold and sell.
The capital exists, and so do the assets. What’s missing is the market infrastructure to connect them.
Much of Africa’s economic activity has never been structured into investable securities, and even where securities exist, fragmented markets limit access to buyers and liquidity.
The next opportunity isn’t simply moving money faster, but making more of what Africa produces financeable and tradable.
Tokenization allows us to rethink how assets are issued, owned and traded. Stablecoins improve how capital moves and settles, while prediction markets introduce a new dimension to price discovery, allowing market participants to express views on future outcomes and helping investors better understand and price risk.
Together, these technologies create an opportunity to connect Africa’s fragmented capital markets to a global pool of investors.
On October 30, I’ll be hosting a panel at the Africa Prosperity Summit in Lagos titled Liquidity for a Continent: Tokenization, Stablecoins, and the Capital Markets Africa Needs.
I’ll be joined by @bunmiakinyemiju, @barbara_iyayi, @Richmonb and @CarmelleCadet, with Yassin Tamer moderating.
We’ll explore what it takes to build the market infrastructure that makes Africa’s economic activity investable, gives issuers access to global capital and creates deeper liquidity for investors.

We will use the waste product of our biogas production facilities as fertilizer to produce much more food and significantly reduce the cost of food.
We will burn our inorganic waste to generate more electricity, and even more Lagosians will be employed to run those facilities.
We will recycle the waste product from the incinerators as building materials.
We will provide free, qualitative education for all children of Lagos Taxpayers', to university level.
We will provide free, accessible and comprehensive Healthcare to children and the elderly, initially, whilst drastically reducing the overall cost of healthcare to everyone else.
We will provide a minimum of 100,000 high quality, yet affordable homes in four years to Lagosians, with LOW INTEREST mortgages.
We will reduce the Average Commute Time (the amount of time spent in traffic), by at least 50% within our first 18 months in traffic, whilst simultaneously reducing the cost of public transport.
Make a conscious, strategic decision today, to invest in a future where you will no longer struggle to feed yourself, much less your family.
Vote for a future where you can start achieving your dreams, hopes and aspirations, and begin to realistically dream bigger dreams.
Vote for a future where you and your children are much safer and much more secure in ANY part of Lagos State, because we will provide much better welfare for all security agents working in Lagos State, starting from much better residential accomodation, to better working facilities and conditions, to much better welfare.
Vote for @GRVlagos. Vote for ADC.
