Proud to share our latest paper in out in @Nature today on the origin of #snakes. We present Tametara mirim, an articulated 3D preserved stem snake from the Late Cretaceous of Brazil.

Can fossils help conserve living species? In our new paper led by postdoc Thayara Carrasco & published in @FunEcology, we track functional diversity loss of mammals during the Late Pleistocene extinctions in a grassland ecosystem.

We also show the impact of the number of fossils included in the unresolved FBD analysis on node ages. To have effective priors that are more informative than those induced by flat node calibrations it’s necessary a substantial number of fossils (in our croc example, >20).
As of last month, I’ve joined the editorial board of the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology (@JVP_vertpaleo) as the new Phylogenetics Editor! I’m responsible for evaluating reproducibility of phylogenetic analyses submitted to the journal. 💻⚒️
Many thanks to @PedroLGodoy , @danielcasali13 and to the Senior Editors for all the assistance.

🚨 Out today: our Editorial in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology on an important issue in science - the reproducibility crisis in phylogenetic analyses.
In it, we analyze several years of editorial data to ask a simple question: are things improving?

Our new giant ZJLS paper on the Wealden croc Koumpiodontosuchus is out, and thus.... tetzoo.com/blog/2026/4/13/ko… A great study led by Chris Barker and @EvoPalaeoLab (art here by Mark Witton). #crocodylomorphs #Cretaceous #Wealden #fossils

A little late, but we are excited to introduce a new Triassic crocodylomorph! Eosphorosuchus lacrimosa is a short snouted, contemporary of Hesperosuchus with a powerful bite. The work was led by my Colleague Miranda Margulis Ohnuma. Link to paper below.

The last chapter of my PhD thesis has been finally published! We describe the axial skeleton of the Tuatara in detail, focusing on osteological variability, ontogeny, and fossil remarks.
Check it out, it's open access!

🚨 New paper I had the honor to illustrate! 🚨
Guilherme Hermanson and Serjoscha W. Evers take a look at the survivors of the K-Pg event among the turtles and besides size note that especially diet is something that sets them apart: many of them very shell crusher!

Amazing work by @acapomorphic, @basantakhakurel, @heckeberg and @SebastianHoehna
In this paper, we provide the state-of-the-art by surveying all empirical tip-dating studies - until 2023 - , explain key concepts and provide general recommendations for all the components underlying fossil tip-dating phylogenetic analysis
