Looks like people are concluding that jetbrains as a biz is suffering, don't think that's true. Revenue is up 6%. The negative value is mostly caused by the "cashflow from investing" line item being -$470M

I am beginning to think The Goal might be one of the more important books to read in the era of LLM productivity 🤔

Ok time to tell the truth. Over 50% of my code since 2012 has been written by jetbrains tools. And around 5-10% by Windows clipboard 😅

ReSharper 2026.2.1 has arrived! 🎉 Out-of-Process mode is now the default and supports dotCover, as well as type and project dependency diagrams. In the ACP integration, Junie adds support for Claude Opus 5. See what else is new: blog.jetbrains.com/dotnet/20…

I was just reading a post by someone who was complaining that AI didn't do a good job of programming out of the box—that you had to tune it to get it to behave. AI is an amplifier, and it amplifies the way _you_ work. If _you_ don't have great coding practices, then it will amplify that. If you do, it amplifies that as well. Take architecture as a case in point. There isn't an AI on the planet that can do architecture, which requires judgment, iteration, and continuous conversations with your customer. It's happy to build code in the context of an architecture that _you_ specify, but cannot come up with a suitable-for-context architecture on its own. If you are not specifying appropriate architectural constants and structure, it will amplify the bad. Architecture is very context-sensitive, however. There is no one-size-fits-all approach that Anthropic, for example, could specify out of the box. That's up to you.

"You can build" - but can you design? Knowledge representation is what matters in the long run, which is far more than "building". Going beyond "material" (=code) and seeing levels, perspectives, through temporal/time lenses. talesfrom.dev/blog/time-angl… Ambiguity does not compile
Everyone is now a programmer, because the present and future programming language is your natural language. If you can write or speak, you can build. This is the most important evolution in our field since its creation. And it's a tsunami that has *just* started.

Read the whole thing tonight. Excellent piece. Without even trying you'll learn how domain driven design works. Damian demonstrates a much more important idea: how get the entire system and how it functions transcribed into definable components and flows. AI can't replace a human's ability to do this, much like how it can't one-shot a $10k MRR SaaS application - the act of gathering the context itself, capturing it, and then translating it into something implementable is incredibly hard to do right. It's the ultimate long-horizon problem in our industry: you never get it "right" the first time. These designs will be reshaped continuously until the software gets retired, if ever. Staying relevant in software in the era of AI is going to be less and less about tools you know versus being able to define a system that correctly models a business problem and communicate its shape to AI and other people who can help you implement and execute it. And knowing how to code / express these models well is still very valuable, i.e. "how can I use the type system to make illegal state unrepresentable inside our system?" - but code monkeys as a profession is over. Deep domain, integration, architecture (not knowing the names of patterns, but understanding where pressure / change sources / etc are likely to occur and designing to accommodate that,) and technical expertise are even more valuable in the era of AI. Adapt and move up the stack.

That's a great question! 1. Supporting: safest to vibe code (low modeling complexity, low volatility, low uncertainty) 2. Generic: vibe coding can be an alternative to using an existing offering but the risks should be weighed carefully. I'd consider it only for low-risk, simpler, well defined functionalities 3. Core: if it can be vibe coded -- all the domain knowledge exists in a foundational model -- then it's not a viable core business, everyone can do it

We are so back. I don't want to be mean, but shouldn't we be more LEAN? What is the goal? What is the biggest contraint? Do we know what is the most important? Do we really need it right now? Do our customer get more value? Were costs reduced? Are we making more money?
More AI-generated code doesn't make your team faster. It might actually slow you down.

Think we need some more concrete measures. Feelings can be misleading. If AI-assisted coding improves people's productivity, it must show up in some numbers somewhere, I suppose
