Human trafficking keeps evolving, and so does the fight against it.

Parents used to warn kids about the white van.
That van didn’t disappear but instead went online. Gaming chats and private apps are open doorways: our children have access to the world, and the world has access to our children.
The FBI just recovered a Utah minor after 18 months. DOJ says the grooming started on gaming platforms, moved to private apps, then across state lines.
Ask them tonight:
“Has anyone online ever asked you to keep a secret or switch apps?”
This is why GUARD exists: field research, education, and training that help parents catch it before the next child disappears.

🚨 Portland Police report criminal charges against 44 sex buyers following human trafficking operations - highlighting why addressing demand must remain a priority in this fight.
Since June, police have worked alongside federal, county, and community partners to investigate suspected buyers and traffickers and connect people with support.
During a separate April–October outreach effort, officers documented:
🔹 555 contacts with people selling sex
🔹 139 people offered advocacy services and resources to help them leave prostitution
🔹 Criminal charges against 44 sex buyers
Demand fuels exploitation and combating trafficking requires accountability for buyers, sustained investigations into traffickers, and meaningful support for survivors.
GUARD will continue advocating for all three. Protecting people from exploitation means confronting the demand that sustains it.

Protection starts with connection.
Make space for the conversation after the fun.
Ask about the best part of their evening, then give them room to share anything else. If they bring up a concern, start with “I’m glad you told me.” 🧵 7/8
Make asking for a pickup as ordinary as asking what time to be home.
Choose your family’s “come get me” signal together, and talk through what you’ll do when they use it. 🧵 6/8
Enjoy the moment. Share the memories afterward.
Make a family plan for Halloween photos, and ask friends and family to help keep your child’s location private. 🧵 5/8
Give children a simple phrase to keep handy: “Let me check with my parent first.”
Practice it together so checking in about an offer or invitation feels normal. 🧵 4/8
Help them practice speaking up.
“Can we stay together?” “No, thank you.” “I’m ready to go.” Let children know you’ll support them when they express what they need. 🧵 3/8
A little planning leaves more room for fun.
Talk through the evening together, and let your children explain the plan back to you. Give them a chance to ask questions before they head out. 🧵2/8

I’m proud to see the leadership of the Sarasota County Schools Police Department putting prevention first and giving their officers practical tools to protect children. I was honored to provide training on grooming, sextortion, and child exploitation, and I’m grateful to the officers for their willingness to keep learning.
For me, it’s about what an officer can take from that room and use to recognize the signs early, ask the right questions, and help a child. That’s how awareness becomes action, not just knowing exploitation happens, but knowing what to do when a child needs you.

🛡️ PROTECTING STUDENTS BEGINS WITH RECOGNIZING THE SIGNS
GUARD Against Trafficking President @ali_hopper recently provided specialized training Sarasota County School Resource Officers on grooming, sextortion, and child exploitation.
School Resource Officers serve on the front lines of student safety. Their daily interactions with young people put them in a unique position to recognize warning signs, identify potential exploitation, and take appropriate action.
Awareness is important and knowing how to respond is critical.
This training reflects GUARD’s commitment to providing law enforcement and community partners with practical knowledge to better identify and respond to exploitation.
We appreciate Sarasota County’s commitment to protecting students and investing in the professionals entrusted with their safety.

The very first GUARD challenge coin went to my husband, Ryan.
Ryan has supported this mission, but he has also supported me in ways I could never fully explain in a post. There have been times I’ve given more time, energy, and emotion to this work than I had to give. When I didn’t have much left in me, he was there to help carry me through.
There is so much behind the scenes that people never see, and so much he has carried that he would never ask to be recognized for. His support has helped make it possible for me to keep going, keep showing up, and keep doing this work. I couldn’t begin to express how much that matters, both to me personally and to the mission we’re working toward.
He has never left my side. He has stood by me through the difficult parts and never stopped believing in the impact this work could have. That is a testament to who Ryan is and the heart he has.
Ryan, I love you. Thank you for taking care of me while I’ve been so focused on taking care of others. Giving you that first coin was a small way to honor how much you have given.
And that is the heart behind our GUARD Against Trafficking challenge coins: recognizing the people whose actions show a genuine commitment to protecting others and supporting the work it takes to do that.
Some of those contributions happen on the front lines. Others happen quietly, behind the scenes, through time, knowledge, partnership, prayer, or the steady support that helps someone else keep going. All of it matters. These coins are a way to honor that commitment and the people behind it.
The words “Protect. Prevent. Disrupt.” reflect our purpose: to protect people, prevent exploitation, and disrupt trafficking. “Not on our watch” is a reminder of the responsibility we share to pay attention, work together, and act.
When we give someone a GUARD coin, we are saying that we see and appreciate what they have given to this mission. We know that service and support often cost more than people realize, and we do not take either for granted.
It meant a great deal to start with the man who has been beside me through it all.

🚨FUGITIVE ARRESTED IN MASSACHUSETTS CHILD-TRAFFICKING CASE
On October 8, 2026, the U.S. Marshals Massachusetts Fugitive Task Force and state and local law enforcement arrested Rigoberto Chavez-Regaldo, 40, on Nantucket in connection with the alleged trafficking of minors in Brockton and elsewhere in eastern Massachusetts.
He faces multiple charges in Plymouth County, including trafficking a person for sexual servitude, rape of a child, and enticing a child under 16. Authorities reported that the arrest was made without incident.
The operation involved U.S. Marshals, Brockton Police, Massachusetts State Police, and Nantucket Police. The Marshals Service specifically credited the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing for assistance critical to the apprehension. Additional details are being withheld to protect the privacy of the children involved.
Protecting children requires action, coordination, and a commitment to accountability. @GUARDATOfficial recognizes the investigators and officers whose work brought this suspect into custody. The children affected deserve privacy, protection, and support.
*Criminal charges are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
