Every time a tragic accident happens and the tinfoil hat people start coming out with conspiracy theories, I have to consciously remind myself that the average person on the internet and X is most likely someone with negligible understanding of basic biology, physics and how things work in general.
The Learjet crash and engagement bait around it are prime examples of this.
Humble reminder of how fickle life is and no matter what good or bad you do in life while you are around, once you're gone its all pointless chatter.
Closed Oct just a little shy of $100k, starting Nov with the highest starting revenue we ever have on the books.
The team is dialed in and enjoying the fruits of their labor with bonuses and promotions. The culture I have built does't reward individual success only, that is pointless if the company is not succeeding as a whole.
It's extremely hard to find people who appreciate and embody this mindset, the last candidate we added to the team didn't get this concept well so we're back to the search for a 3rd admin.
We're revamping our systems, trying out new marketing channels, gathering momentum for the 2nd location, so many moving parts at once to set ourselves up for a stellar 2028.
I'll also be traveling internationally again for a month starting shortly so excited to pressure test this machine. Onwards and upwards!
Just went on the thread to read all comments here, from actual business owners and people who think they can own a profitable business..
You can get a Walmart shoe for $20 and a reputed brand for $2000.
Both are shoes technically but I never see anyone going into a brand store after buying the $20 shoe saying
"I'M NOT PAYING YOU THESE CRAZY SHOE PRICES. This shoe brand is all white guys who don't make any shoes, they just keep half the money and pay the actual shoe makers the other half."
π Internet is a crazy place lol
Before 9 AM today I have:
β
Completed 1 commercial post-construction walkthrough ($$$)
β
Completed 1 hoarder clean walkthrough (will close for sure)
β
Finished paperwork to onboard 3rd admin
β
Finished some tax to-do's
β
Talked to my mom for an hour (non-negotiable)
β
Closed a $600 move in clean (picked up the phone while driving π )
Solid start to a good day! Onwards and upwards!
All of them went well except one which required a personal touchpoint and that solved it π
Three new 5 star reviews earned and we added <$2k to our recurring books between yesterday and today.
Fingers crossed for a solid week and 2nd half of October.
14 cleans today to start off a busy week..
Day 1 of me chanting till EOD and till the last clean finishes:
"I will not stress"
π
The next skill I need to learn is how to relax and enjoy the fruits of my labor.
I'm admittedly terrible at it and my upbringing, culture etc. basically engrained into my very core that relaxing is anti-productivity.
My OCD and ADHD combo add fuel to the fire here on top. My brain constantly moves the goal post and I like to stay busy so its a never ending treadmill and prison of my own making.
Any other biz owners who have figured this out and any have advice?
I'm so grateful for call recordings and transcripts in @gowithquo.
Customer got pissed last evening about an upcoming monthly clean (2nd clean) that they think they did not even schedule. We didn't try to argue and just cancelled service on our end, system charged them a cancellation fee which we refunded automatically too out of courtesy due to their cancellation reason.
They freak out this morning when they see the cancellation fee notification come through on their bank about 12 hours later, "why was this charged, I never set up any future service, this is fraudulent"
I sent them a screenshot of me asking verbatim if they want me to set them up for monthly service and them saying yes π which shut down the whole "i didn't agree to recurring service" and they pivoted to "this thread doesn't show you mentioning a cancellation fee" π€£
Can't win them all but every time we've been able to counter insanity by sending people proof like that I'm extra grateful for this feature.
Love converting a complaint into a 5 star review and monthly cleaning π
Good things happen when you truly listen to people and understand basic psychology.
Didn't realize the amount of interest this would generate from mutuals π
Sales is a skillset I'm unabashedly great at and I think its teachable if you're truly curious open to learning.
I'm going to work on something that can be of use to others, please DM if you're interested and I'll do my best to help.
Note: I'm not trying to sell anything except my time and experience. This is not a product lol.
2-3 small tweaks in how you handle a sales call can improve your close rate by 5-10%..I've seen this happen 4 times already with admin's I've taught.
At some point I'd like to just try training VA's as a service. I like to teach and I used to close at 60% when I was taking all calls, on multiple channels.
Calling around businesses and hearing how 90% of customer service VA's tackle sales just makes me sad for the owners who have no idea how much $$ they are missing out on by losing on leads that should be an easy close.

Making some significant $$ investments in the biz this last quarter, I'm excited to see the ROI from these.
π― Adding a 3rd admin to the team this month, fingers crossed that we find a long term and solid fit.
π― Revamping our systems so we are ready to scale and make the best out of our current leads. Its high time for us to actually have a system that can handle 300-400 cleans a month.
π― 2nd GBP ready to cook, already ranking insanely well without any SEO work, can't wait to see how it does 6 months down the line. Goal is to get it to $10k/month within 3 months.
Hiring is now a continuous process for us instead of a reactive one and we're becoming even more selective with our candidate pool. These last 3 months are preparation for an even stellar 2027.
The way my brain and body itches to see the world, travel and experience life other than the one I'm living is hard to describe..I'm grateful for this one but I know there is more to life than just this.
The desire to extensively travel is the only thing where my wife and I don't have the same amount of excitement, which ironically worked out for better when we sat down and discussed it over days and weeks.
I learnt that I don't have a sense of "home" or roots anymore. I left home when I was 18 and have lived in 14 homes since then. Home to me is a roof and a safe place. People are home, houses are not.
She likes to travel but also needs stability and a home base, she's someone who needs roots. With our 8 pets and constant fosters its ideal that one of us is home for the most part so its a problem that works itself out.
With the right partner, even the most incompatible things can be worked out.
Ngl, I'm super grateful for this business and industry but every couple of months I start dreaming about building the same model with a high ticket biz and fewer customer interactions overall..
Let's see where life leads, every day I learn more from what we do now and the applications are endless because all roads lead to sales and ops..
Dealing with both at this scale in a low ticket biz like cleaning teaches you 10x faster.
When I started the business, I had 0 sales and business experience.
I learnt from every call I took, tried new things on the next one and built a mental playbook that let me close leads at 50%+ close rate on average. Also, these were premium prices even then, not cheap cleans.
I see so many people now just plop in a sub-par trained VA for sales and just check out completely because they don't know either how to sell. When I call around in my market 80% calls are like this, people regurgitating a "script".
I can bet that just within a day of 1:1 coaching these folks (if trainable) can close significantly more.
Such a wasted opportunity when people spend 5x time on picking logos and website themes.
I will never understand what goes on inside the skull of someone who
gets stood up last min by a cheap cleaner π€‘
has an emergency and needs the clean same day π€‘
YET calling around for the cheapest price AGAIN π€‘

I've had the chance to talk to multiple cleaning biz owners throughout the years.
The ones I connect with the most at a foundational level are not the most tech-adept, not the most "optimal" with systems and automations but the ones who understand this is a people business. A whole lot of human psychology and strong moral compass are common traits I see in this cohort.
They know how to take care of their people. These folks treat their teams and cleaners not just as a resource, but as an asset, they understand and empathize, they build long term relationships where they are invested equally.
Always a pleasure to run across such folks.
