Okay, I have a plan. The Heljan 47xx 'Night Owls' have a reputation for being fragile and unreliable runners. So, here's my thinking. Could I possibly retrofit the model with Hornby components?

As in, fit in a Hornby drawbar and solder in the tender plug from a Hornby model so that the loco could run with a Hornby Castle tender. Maybe I could even use the boiler and cab from a Hornby Castle/Star. What do you think?

Everybody: I’ve had an idea, and hear me out. What if we used the chassis from a Bachmann MR 0-4-4 for a RWS Edward? The motor’s small enough, and can run without needing to be connected to a tender. Just flip it round along with some chassis detailing and it could work.
