Fred VanVleet is back, and the Rockets look totally different than last year 👀
Kevin Garnett and Matt Barnes on how a championship-tested point guard gives Houston stability, organization and leadership, and puts Sengun and Durant in their spots.
This is a reminder that no matter what happens with the elections today, most of us still have to wake up and go to work tomorrow…

Good morning, Houston Rockets fans how are you feeling about the team with the best record in the NBA?

Houston is a funny team. They have some incredible athletes. Then they have guys like Sengun and VanVleet who play at the pace of Sunday morning over-50 run at the YMCA.
And it's all really effective!

The Rockets just beat one of the best teams in the NBA by 16 points, and never trailed in the game. This team completely has me as a fan this year. I just love so much about them and, repeating the same mantra, just pray they stay healthy. #Allfire

It's pretty amazing for Houston that an opponent works for a switch to get Amen Thompson off them, and they end up with Tari Eason. Then, they work for another switch and they end up with Marcus Smart.
Houston is a really well-built team.

Steve Kerr says Gregg Popovich was so good at delivering bad news that he could bench you and somehow make you feel good about it
“Gregg Popovich was the best I’ve ever seen at delivering a bad message in a really good way. He took me out of the rotation as a player one time, and it was all very matter-of-fact, but I knew how much he cared about me. The way you deliver a message, I’ve never seen anybody as powerful as him, because he could tell you you’re being demoted but make you feel good about it.”
“The way he would do it was with genuine compassion. ‘Hey, I know this is tough, but we’re going to take you out of the rotation. You stay with it, and here’s why.’ The clarity is really important. It can’t be, ‘Hey, just keep your head up. You’ll be fine.’ It’s got to be, ‘Here’s why. I’m going to play him because we need somebody to do this right now.’”
“He would do it in a way that could also really be jarring, make you realize, ‘I’ve got to be better. My approach has to be better. My attitude has to be better.’”
“And I realized then that coaching is not just encouraging and saying, ‘Hey, you know…’ You have to be honest with people at difficult times. But the way you deliver the message is everything. I’ve prided myself on that skill that Gregg Popovich showed me.”

FINAL: Rockets 119, Thunder 98. Rockets get back on winning track, now 6-1 on the year.
1) It's still early in the season but Jabari Smith Jr. looks different. He had two 30+ point games all of last season -- he just dropped his second in 7 games this season. 30 points on 10-18 FG, 6-12 3P, 9 boards, 5 assists and a ridiculous +33 in his time. He's now shooting 44.7% from beyond the arc on the year. He's moving more fluidly, looks stronger and is making an impact on both ends of the floor.
2) With Fred VanVleet sitting the second game of a back-to-back, Marcus Smart got the start and he went ballistic from long range, hitting 7-10 from deep for 24 points. So far? Great (and CHEAP!) signing.
3) Sengun returned to the lineup after a two-game absence with back issues and while he wasn't efficient with his shot (6-17 FG), he did a terrific job facilitating -- 16 points, 9 boards and 10 assists to just 2 turnovers. He consistently found the open guy.
4) Amen Thompson got hit in the face early in the game and Ime quickly pulled him. I don't know if this mattered or not but he did not seem very impactful today. Hopefully there's some clarity on that later.
5) This is not the same OKC team we're used to seeing -- injuries have flat decimated them. Good win but there will be much bigger tests coming.
