The speed limit was 50 km/h. One driver was travelling 136 km/h.
On Sunday, our Traffic Enforcement Section conducted speed enforcement in a construction zone along westbound Yellowhead Trail at 97 Street. In just four hours, 49 vehicles were stopped. Eleven drivers were travelling between 90 and 99 km/h, and four were caught driving more than 100 km/h.
The fastest driver didn't just nearly triple the speed limit. They also failed to stop for police, nearly caused a serious collision, and were stopped moments later.
The 17-year-old driver was issued a ticket for careless driving and a mandatory court summons for speeding.
Construction zones are there to protect workers, drivers, and everyone sharing the road. At speeds like these, there's little time to react when something goes wrong.
Slow down. Pay attention. We're enforcing the law in construction zones.

This is an Alberta Emergency Alert. The City of Edmonton is issuing a water supply alert.
This alert is in effect for the entire City of Edmonton.
Heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours has pushed the region's stormwater system to capacity, with localized flooding and backups being reported in neighbouring communities. If the stormwater system continues to operate over-capacity, flooding and sewer backups will continue to increase.
Avoid unnecessary indoor water use. Limit showers and baths. Delay laundry and dishwasher use. Ensure sump pumps and downspouts are functioning properly to direct water away from homes. For more information, check epcor.com/ca/en/ab/edmonton.…

Air1 – Edmonton’s eye in the sky – had eyes on the driver of a stolen Chevy Silverado. The suspect had no idea he was being watched as he drove through red lights, veered into oncoming traffic, and even took a dangerous detour on a walking path.
Officers on the ground intervened with a well-positioned spike belt, bringing the driver’s reckless stunt to an end before anyone was hurt. The driver faces a series of charges.
