Establishing a better link between renewable generation and consumer and corporate demand for renewable supply would make the government’s goal easier to achieve.

Currently well over £1 billion a year is spent on certificates to label customers’ electricity supply ‘renewable’, without any evidence that that cash is stimulating renewable growth rather than filling the pockets of middlemen.

The government expects the majority of its target £40bn a year investment to come from private sources. Addressing the issue of greenwash in energy supply would help this goal.

Hearing the Energy Minister echo what we have been saying for years — that home-grown renewable power is the only way to detach UK energy prices from volatile global fossil fuel markets — is encouraging. But there remain areas we can go further, faster.

Lots in the #KingsSpeech on how to progress on large scale renewable infrastructure.
In energy, small can be big too — the UK’s rooftop solar has a greater total capacity than our largest power station.
And @GoodEnergy's data shows the power it exports has been underestimated.

Mandating solar on new builds through the already planned Future Homes Standard would be simple. It's a no brainer - of course any home of the future should feature solar panels.
Pre-election we called for solar on the 1.5m new homes @UKLabour committed to build.
🏡☀️ It could create 6GW of clean power, generating electricity not only for the 1.5m homes but an additional >1m
Today @ObserverUK is reporting a rooftop revolution.

Our wind farm at Delabole, Cornwall, was the UK's first.
It turns 30 years old as #COP26 opens.
To celebrate the birthplace of UK renewables, and send a message to world leaders, we commissioned @lukejerram to create a light show projection.

Fantastic @RachelReevesMP is lifting the ban on onshore wind - it could unlock 23GW of renewable power that's currently in the pipeline.
If we mandated solar on the 1.5m homes the government has committed to, that could create a further 6GW of capacity.

The world is warming mainly because of burning fossil fuels. The consequences are becoming more visible. It's time to take action.

They say they want to cut costs but fail to clearly explain how a Conservative gov would achieve the one thing that would truly do this for the long term. Unlocking abundant home grown, cheap renewables to power our country, unleashing us from global fossil fuel markets.
Good Energy retweeted
The Conservative manifesto’s energy plan is not surprising — they have been committed to new oil and gas while leaving the blockers on cheaper renewables for some time. But that doesn’t make it any less disappointing.
