Together with @FoundFutureNE, we supported a funding bid instigated by @bigriverbakery to buy the derilict Byker Community Centre and bring it it back to life. With the backing of Byker Green Party Councillors, our joint bid has now been selected by @NewcastleCC.

The Council has selected a joint bid from local community organisations @FoundFutureNE, @NCP_CIC and @bigriverne to buy, renovate and reopen the centre and bowling green.
The next step is working with residents to create a community space that Byker deserves.

For years, graffiti on the derelict Byker Community Centre has read: “This used to be a community.”
When I stood to become Byker’s first @NCLGreenParty councillor, bringing this building and its bowling green back to life was a priority.
Now, we've got some brilliant news!

Academia has a lot of reckoning to do. A LOT. Need to build up bottom-up power, unions etc to counter the top-down neoliberal managers, all too inclined to bootlick fascists.
Well that has gone well. Always back the Lib Dems to be on the wrong side of almost everything. Weak political opportunists.

Judges: debating lawfulness of Labour's proscription of Palestine Action
Police: arresting grandmas because of Labour's proscription of Palestine Action
Labour: still supporting Israel's genocide in Gaza, and wasting everyone's time with their proscription of Palestine Action
The BBC would deny they are complicit.
It's utterly pathetic the way BBC presenters like Victoria Derbyshire are told by BBC bosses to say to outspoken interviewees like Bernie Sanders things like "President Trump and his family would deny they are corrupt", or "The Israeli Government would deny they are extremist". It's gross over-reaction to Trump libel action against the BBC.
UK universities are very poorly led, but if you think VCs are capable of wrecking an entire sector I have a tuition fee regime to sell you with chronic underfunding as a second course.
And here it was me thinking it was austerity, lack of investment and the stupidity that comes from putting accountants in charge.

Israel killed eight people including a child in Gaza this weekend as they continue their genocide.
After a weekend of arresting pensioners for protesting against this horror, Labour has today collapsed local agreements putting Israel far above serving our local communities.

It is bad enough when university management knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing. But, as its students have neatly summarised on this website, the University of Nottingham’s management seems to be struggling to even achieve the former.

Arresting your granny for words while tolerating racist hate speech on social media is so UK Labour.

This is the statement issued by the Met Police about the Defend Our Juries demonstration today. Commander Adam Slonecki, from Scotland Yard, said: “All those intending on coming to this event know that supporting a proscribed organisation is unlawful – they are essentially meeting to purposefully commit a crime.” This is a remarkable contrual of the law and extent of police powers. Surely it cannot be right that someone protesting against the Government’s decision to proscribe an organisation is automatically interpreted by the Met Police as supporting that organisation and is therefore committing an arrest-able offence. This is especially the case when the proscription is being challenged in the courts. I believe the government and parliament made the wrong decision in proscribing Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation and I continue to call for its deproscription by the government. If the people turning up today to demonstrate against the proscription of Palestine Action are to be arrested for simply turning up, are we all to be criminalised for suggesting the government got this wrong?
