Craigellachie (@QuaichBarHotel ) PX Sherry Cask. One of the gentlest executed Sherry finish I’ve had a pleasure of enjoying. Mr. Wilber 🐷 says it’s whisky o’clock. 🄃 I’m at my local whisky society enjoying an evening amongst friends. My review of this dram: Colour: early sunrise pale yellow Nosing: a classic Speyside lacking the pineapple Craigellachie is known and loved for, which isn’t necessarily surprising given this is a more elegant dram for the refined palate. Plenty of thin orchard fruits, such as green apple, pear and unripened mandarin oranges. There’s lovely cherry blossoms and a very subtle barrel influence. I wouldn’t call it ā€œwell balanced,ā€ which is nice because variety of flavour profile is the foundation of distillery character. Rather, it is a refreshing floral forward nosing and if you spend enough time with it there is a back note of those pineapples we know and love. Palate: incredible burst of saccharine notes. There’s really too many to list within what is a reasonable review, but to list some of the more prominent, you get a lot of non concentrated vanillas and caramels, plenty of caramelized sugar, Christmas raisin bread and gingerbread. Plenty of what you get from the crispy top of a well caramelized crĆØme brĆ»lĆ©e. There’s a delightful ripened cherry to complement cherry blossoms on the nose. Finish: this is one of the gentlest finishes I’ve ever enjoyed. In fact, it might be the most gentle. So much of the airy translucent flavours of the palate are left lingering all around the tongue and cheek; no pun intended. The dram is quite the opposite, an unimposing, altogether pleasant, light, sweet and floral experience. I would say the finish is wonderfully long as I am still enjoying the finish at the moment while I type. I don’t score whisky, but if I did this would be well over 8 and border if not over the 9 range. It’s positively approachable and lovely. My independent blog: womenswhiskyworld.blog
