Finished my first read of Out of The Silent Planet by CS Lewis. Since this is the first of a trilogy, I'm going to save thematic analysis for when I'm done (probably in the form of an article). On the book itself: I found it well written, but the plot/environment is incredibly surreal. It's as good as his other works, but a reader's enjoyment is going to be equal to how deeply they can get into the style, similarly to Herbert's Dune. Unlike Dune, it's a pretty short novel, clocking in around 150 pages in my edition, so I feel like it's worth diving into the tale of Dr. Ransom, the poor brit who started on a walking holiday only to be kidnapped for purposes of Human Sacrifice on an Alien world. Personal thoughts? I liked it, but I felt like I was missing context. For me it came off like an extended preamble to a larger work. A commenter also mentioned that it helps if you know more about how Medieval People viewed the Cosmos. Perhaps I'll prepare during another read. That being said, I am planning on reading through the whole trilogy back to back. Next up? Perelandra!
