BREAKING: France just voted to tax the internet.
French lawmakers approved a tax of โฌ0.055 (5.5 cents) for every gigabyte of data that companies like Netflix and YouTube send to French users. Itโs a tax on the companies, not users directly, but the cost could get passed on to subscribers.
The vote was 11 to 10, with only 35 of 577 lawmakers present. Supporters say it could raise up to โฌ10 billion a year. The French government opposed it, warning it would hit smaller French companies hardest; VLC says it would cost it over โฌ1 million a year.

A major standoff is unfolding in Poland tonight over the Constitutional Tribunal. Judges elected by parliament, with the support of Prime Minister Donald Tuskโs pro-EU, centrist government, moved to take control of the courtโs leadership and suspended its president, a PiS appointee.
The move is part of Tuskโs effort to reverse changes made under the previous right-wing PiS government, which critics accused of politicizing the judiciary. A powerful explosion has struck the Fรกbrica de Municiones de Granada in El Fargue, Spain.
Initial reports:
โข At least three people injured, reportedly suffering hearing-related injuries.
โข Explosion occurred around 09:00 local time.
โข A large mushroom-shaped smoke cloud was visible across Granada.
โข The blast was felt in surrounding communities.
โข Police, firefighters and explosives specialists have responded.
The facility, owned by Czech defence group CSG, produces artillery ammunition, propellants and other military components.
According to initial reports, the explosion occurred in a restricted gunpowder-disposal area, possibly during a routine test.
The cause remains under investigation. There is currently no evidence establishing sabotage.

Binance's initial investigation suggests that the security incident may involve a compromised DevOps engineerโs laptop, which allowed an attacker to gain access to a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions. We have found no evidence of any wallet private key leak. We will share a detailed technical post-mortem once the investigation is complete and the facts are fully verified.
The estimated total impact sits at around $6.3B. We have worked with blockchain partners to freeze affected assets, with ~$3 billion frozen on-chain so far.
Binance will cover all losses from the SAFU fund and the companyโs funds. User funds are safe. We will also publish an updated Proof of Reserves once the remediation is complete.
As an immediate precaution, Binance has:
- temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while security checks are completed;
