Ridwan, we both know Seyi Makinde is the best governor Oyo State has ever had. People in Oke-Ogun, especially in Iseyin, where the dam is located, benefited from his administration. We also know it's a federal government project, and the Tinubu-led government approved its rehabilitation and reconstruction recently, and we know it's because of re-election. Once the federal government does what’s needed, you’ll see the economic improvements Seyi has brought to the area.
That said, how are you doing?
A serious governor would have:
-Lobbied Abuja from day 1 to release it.
-Partnered with the Fg
- Told Oke Ogun people the truth about the bottleneck.
Instead, he made a sweet campaign promise and went quiet for 7yrs

The APC governorship candidate in Oyo State says his government will pursue an exponential increase in the state's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), but has offered no convincing explanation of how he intends to achieve this.
The question is simple: Where will this additional revenue come from?
Without a clear strategy, there is every reason to worry that this proposed IGR increase will translate into more taxation and greater economic pressure on the people.
Nigerians are already experiencing the consequences of economic policies that place enormous burdens on ordinary citizens at the federal level. Oyo State should not become another testing ground for policies that make life harder for its residents.
Increasing IGR should be about growing the economy, widening the tax base and creating an environment where businesses thrive, not simply squeezing more money out of the people.
Oyo State needs economic growth, not another tax burden.

SEVEN YEARS LATER: ANOTHER CAMPAIGN PROMISE UNFULFILLED!
In 2019, Seyi Makinde promised to transform Ikere Gorge Dam and Oke-Ogun into a Special Economic Zone, leveraging the dam for year-round irrigation, electricity generation, freshwater shrimp farming and exports to boost Oyo State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Seven years in office, where is the implementation?
Rather than the promised transformation being delivered by his administration, the Federal Government has taken the initiative to revitalise the long-abandoned dam through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
On January 30, 2026, the Federal Government officially handed over the 6MW Ikere Gorge Hydropower Project to Quaint Energy Limited.
As of November 3, 2026, the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) confirmed that the dam had been concessioned to private investors, with plans to expand its electricity generation potential to as much as 150MW.
Meanwhile, Governor Makinde’s own record on major PPP projects continues to raise serious questions. Seven years into his administration, several promised projects remain undelivered or incomplete.
Even the much-publicised 11MW Independent Power Project (IPP) has yet to deliver its full promised capacity, despite repeated assurances and announcements.

I honestly don't know if it's by force to want to govern a state. The man dropped a manifesto that looks like something prepared for SUG elections. UI students will produce something more compelling😂
The funniest part? Almost everything in that manifesto is already the lived reality of Oyo State residents under HE Seyi Makinde.
Imagine presenting the achievements of an incumbent governor as your own campaign promises. Omo, the standard is too high for them!

Just imagine how unappealing you can be as a candidate that you had to resort to using bots to comment on your own post.
I was pleased to receive members of TAMPAN at our campaign office and grateful for their expression of support for my candidacy.
One issue they raised deserves urgent attention: the revival of the Cultural Centre, Mokola abandoned by this administration. My commitment is to restore art and cultural monuments, establish professional management and bring back to life with regular theatre productions, film events, festivals and creative programmes that was part of our past glory.
The goal is clear: a working art and cultural sector that creates jobs, supports our creative industry and generates revenue for Oyo State.
Oyo’s talent must find opportunity at home.
That is the OYO AHEAD agenda.
