I love the whole "Malfoid" thing, I really do. And i'm not even the target audience. I've enjoyed writing it, and its totally unleashed my muse. I've been thinking about why the whole Malfoid fanfiction phenomenon is doing so ridiculously well, and I think I've figured something out. Men are absolutely STARVING for good romance. Plenty of women, too, I guess. Not pornography. Not harems. Not some elaborate sexual power fantasy. Romance. Two people who who are confused by their feelings, who make mistakes, who struggle to understand one another, and who slowly, awkwardly, sometimes painfully fall in love. You know. That thing human beings have been doing to each other for thousands of years. In story form. Somewhere along the way, the publishing industry decided that men don't like romance. (xitter.cf/ShamashAran/status/210…) The alternatives everyone's been offered for the past couple of decades have been, to put it delicately, a radioactive dumpster fire. On one side, you've got male-oriented harem fantasies where every woman within a fifty-mile radius is aching for a sexual encounter, in graphicly written detail. On the other, you've got the darker corners of romantasy, where the height of romantic fulfillment involves being kidnapped, abused (physically, mentally, or both) or literally raped by a seven-foot-tall monster with the emotional maturity of a malfunctioning garbage disposal. I'm sitting here thinking: CAN TWO PEOPLE JUST FALL IN LOVE WITHOUT SOMEBODY GETTING RAPED OR DEVELOPING A HAREM? Apparently that's too much to ask. This brings me back to Malfoid. Here's a huge set of stories written by many different folks, about two fundamentally decent people, raised in very different worlds, struggling with their feelings, their prejudices, their loyalties, and their expectations. Neither is perfect. Neither always knows what they're doing. Sometimes they're absolute idiots. They have something, and we get to watch it develop in story form. The romance isn't about sexual conquest or domination. It's about vulnerability, trust, affection, and the terrifying realization that another human being has become extraordinarily important to you. And people are eating it up. Which brings me to my theory. Malfoid has caused a false vacuum decay in the quantum field of romantic literature. For decades, we've been trapped in a metastable state where the publishing industry insists that men don't want romance, and male readers have been conditioned to believe there isn't any romance worth reading. Now, comes along comes a wholesome little love story about two emotionally constipated school-age British wizards, and suddenly the entire field collapses into a new, lower-energy vacuum state. The resulting energy release is absolutely catastrophic. Instead of gamma radiation annihilating the universe, we're getting seventeen metric gigatons of YEARNING. Turns out men didn't hate romance. They just wanted something worth falling in love with.
Replying to @ShamashAran
What I find particularly interesting about Malfoid is that - it's not romantasy. It's not any of the genres that fanfic usually finds its way into. It's a wholesome, almost old-fashioned story not really like anything being written today.

Order of the Phoenix, near Christmas Voldemort: "Damnit damnit DAMNIT DAMNIT!" Bellatrix: "What is it, my Lord? Whom should I kill?" Wormtail: "'Whom?'" Bellatrix: "My grammar is proper, unlike some people's!" Wormtail: "Why you-!" Voldemort: "THAT UMBRIDGE WOMAN! Every time Malfoid and Potter are about to become closer while on opposite sides, she has to interrupt! That obnoxious little toad!" Wormtail: "Please Master, let me kill her? Please?" Bellatrix: "I'll do it for you, Master!" Voldemort: "No, no... Nagini! You will sneak into the Ministry of Magic and plant a magical bomb in that toad's office. Maybe we can get her that way! Bloody nuisance." Wormtail: "Um... Master... There's the issue of the prophecy?" Voldemort: "Hm? Oh, yes. Nagini, try to get the prophecy while you're there." Nagini hisses in exasperation before slithering off. Voldemort: "Thank you Wormtail, for reminding me." Wormtail: "You're welcome Master." Bellatrix: *scowls* "CRUCIO!" Wormtail: "GAHHH! WHAT?!" Bellatrix: "Suck up! How dare you take my beloved Master's attention away from me!" Wormtail: "Master! Bellatrix is picking on me!" Bellatrix: "Master! You're right, I am! Punish me for it!" Voldemort: *sighs* "You're like this every bloody Christmas... I wonder what Severus is up to?" xitter.cf/DodgerWing/status/2114…
Order of the Phoenix In Malfoy Manor, Voldemort is looking over the Death Eaters he rescued from Azkaban. Bellatrix in particular. Voldemort: "Excellent, excellent. You kept the faith and will serve me well." Bellatrix: "Master! I knew you would never abandon me!" Bob: "And the rest of us, Master?" Voldemort: "Of course, Bob. Go and get cleaned up, eat. We will make plans after you are rested." They all leave... Except for Bellatrix. Voldemort: "Yes, Bellatrix?" Bellatrix: "Master! I ate and exercised as much as possible so I would be comely and curvy for you!" Voldemort: "That's... Nice Bellatrix, but I have more important matters to attend to right now." Bellatrix: *sobs* "Don't tell me-You've gotten a new woman?!" Voldemort: "What? No!" Bellatrix: "I'LL MURDER HER!" Voldemort: "Nonono! I'm simply managing Malfoid's mission in Hogwarts!" Bellatrix: "I'LL MURDER HER!" Voldemort: "Please Bellatrix, I have zero interest in Malfoid! I would never spoil her romance with Potter!" Bellatrix: "You mean... My niece is infiltrating Hogwarts and having a romance with Potter so that you can destroy him?" Voldemort: "... Yes! Yes, that's it exactly!" Bellatrix: "Oh my beloved widdle niece is becoming a woman! I'm so proud! May I teach her some methods of seduction? I'm sure they will help her succeed! After all, it got me this far with you, Master~!" Voldemort: *twitch* "... No, no, I'm sure she can manage on her own, Bellatrix. Her mother is assisting her." Bellatrix: "Pfft. What does she know about pleasing a real man?" Voldemort: *scowl* "Bellatrix." Bellatrix: *prostrates herself* "MASTER! FORGIVE ME! I HAVE SPOKEN OUT OF TURN! PLEASE, PUNISH ME TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT!" Voldemort: *sigh* "... Wormtail?" Wormtail: *enters* "Yes Master?" Voldemort: "Crucio." Wormtail: "ARGH! WHY ME, MASTER?!" Voldemort: "Because she enjoys it when I use Crucio on her. Let that be a lesson to you, Bellatrix!" Bellatrix: *contrite* "Yes Master." xitter.cf/DodgerWing/status/2114…

The best part of any romance should be the aftermath. Mass Effect 3's Tali Romance is a masterclass in it. The major missions change in dialogue, Rannoch's entire arc changes in context to both you and Tali. It turns a romance from a sidequest to a CHOICE that MATTERED.
My opinion has always been RPG's with romanceable companions should always get a romance/date night/wedding DLC. Where they expand on them and give you like two to three story missions that revolve around it. One of the reasons I loved the final Inquisition DLC so much is that woven into the plot was expanding your romance. Like straight up your character and partner can be engaged and planning their wedding. Which leads to plenty of adorable and funny dialog during the missions.

Half remembered voices echoed in the dark, “-HER!” “-you done, Potter-” “Please-” Everything was covered in an impenetrable black velvet abyss. Then, slicing through that midnight, a shaft of light. She was there, in the spotlight. Or a version of her, standing en pointe. The Song of Swans began to seep into the darkness as she began to move with its ebbs and tides, a cracked reflection lengthened along the ground, a full pale moon on its surface as the music filled the space. The black of the background melted like washed out chalk, and the dancing version of her was moving through moments in her life. The dance studio when she was nine, her father standing at attention with the instructor at his shoulder. “Control, Poise and Balance, Draconia. It is about being aware of your self, and where you place your focus.” Then it was her mother’s voice in the garden’s when she was ten, the private box where she cultivated the Lilies, “-must cut the weakness out, or you risk the whole presentation and months of work. Here,” The dancer moved past her younger self and her mother, as Draconia took the shears from her. “-and reposte,” The image colors shifted and reordered, fencing practice on the family green at eleven. Crabbe and Goyle standing by as she practiced her parries and thrusts with an older man. “Very good. Always look to the advantage of the situation,” Her instructor took his helmet off, her father with his hair tied back considered her with pride. “You’re weak on your right side, you’ll need to work on your form.” Then darkness again. The dancer returned to the spotlight and collapsed like a clipped flower, the spotlight cutting. The black curtain again descended over everything. Draconia’s eyes fluttered open. There was a tight sensation all over, her body stung like she’d been bitten by a swarm of ants. The sheets of the bed rustled as she shifted position, noticing the ceiling of Madame Pomfrey’s which she’d experienced on more occasions than she’d care to recall. She was in the infirmary. She lifted her head, looking down to see her arms and body bandages beneath a patient smock. The light hurt her eyes for a moment as they adjusted before shapes further afield came into view. She was alone, the beds to her left and right empty. The visitors chairs were absent any concerned acquaintances. Where was Crabbe and Goyle? Pansy? Daphne? Her mind was catching up. For that matter, why was she in the infirmary? Like a broken levy, it came flooding back. The fight in the bathroom, Harry had cast some spell she didn’t know, then there was pain everywhere. She was sure she had died. Hadn’t she? Her body tensed as she saw a thick curtain of shadow move towards her before a pale circle of a face resolved in her vision, hung about with limp black hair. “Miss Malfoy, I see you are still with us.” Snape’s dry, cutting voice accompanied his level, appraising look, as flat as it had ever been and somehow twice as piercing. “Harry? What… how?” She wasn’t sure how to phrase her question, or even what she was asking. Snape approached the side of her bed, his pale hands held a small box of Sugar Quills delicately before placing them on the nightstand beside her with his familiar precision. “Potter is fine, though to my estimation, he won’t be when I am through with him.” She shifted, her body still aching, managing to sit up, looking from the box of sweets to Snape. “What happened?” “A question I would very much like the answer to myself, Miss Malfoy.” Snape took up his robes and sat ramrod straight in one of the guest chairs. His chin tilted down as he put the full weight of his eyes on her. “Tell me… what exactly did you say to Potter?” She swallowed, thinking of Snape’s position in their conspiracy. She shook her head, “I didn’t tell him anything. He- He saw me, said I’d hexed someone. Attacked me, I- I was only defending myself.” “Surely,” Snape’s tone was level, but his doubt was draped thick around the single word. He gestured to the box, “The boy has been beside himself over his… clash with you, wanted to give you this but did not feel adequate to deliver it himself. I assured him I would ensure you received his… contrition.” Snape dipped a hand into his robe and produced a salve of Dittany, setting it with a clink beside the box of Sugar Quills. “I managed to repair most of the damage. You may have some scarring, even with the Dittany.” She looked at the box and the balm, then at Snape’s hands as he folded them neatly in his lap. He had repaired most of the damage? Then... he had been there? “Professor?” Snape seemed keen to her question, “Let us not complicate the interaction with questions, Miss Malfoy.” Rising again from the seat, he looked down at her. “I trust once you are healed you will keep to your… obligations. In the meantime, you have been excused from classes and duties for the next few days. I’d urge you to take time to think on where you stand with things.” Snape met her eyes for a long moment, and then turned, leaving her alone in the infirmary with her thoughts. He either had been there when it happened or nearby, but why? Had he intervened after she lost consciousness? Had Potter gone and retrieved him? She’d obviously not get answers from Snape. She couldn’t ask Harry… she recalled the fire in his eyes as he’d cast that dreadful spell. This is what you think of me? She tugged at some of the bandages, peering underneath at the silvery scars before she tenderly reached out and fetched the Dittany, spending the next hour carefully applying it to the dozen foot long scars wrapping around her arms, legs and torso. Seeing the extent of it made her wonder how she managed. What spell had he used? She’d never heard of it. Sectum something. She lay back, looking at the ceiling for a moment. She’d deserved it… for what she’d been up to in the room of requirement. For the hex she’d put on Katie Bell. For what she had yet to do. She deserved much worse. Why would Harry feel guilty for it? She turned her head to look at the box. She stared at it for several long minutes as she puzzled about why he’d feel responsible when she’d attacked him first. She’d been dreadful to him since last year, even turned in Cho to that awful woman. She reached a bandaged hand out to the box and settled it into her lap, opening it up, she idly snacked on a few of the quills. The seats next to her remained empty. She wondered if they even knew she’d been injured, if Snape or Harry had told anyone. Her fingers, brushing through the box felt something out of sorts. She pinched it and produced it, her eyes widening as she recognized the emerald serpent earring from the Ball. She had told Mother she’d lost it. She thought she had. It was a bauble, nothing important. Nothing that meant anything. But looking at it now… it meant something. She didn’t know what. Harry had it? Or was it Snape? No, Snape wouldn’t have left it in a box of sweets for her. Then... Harry? She felt a keen sense of confusion and a fluttering warmth somewhere in her chest, before she palmed the earring and snapped the box closed, her face moving from a hopeful smile to the cold of a winter morning. It didn’t matter, she still had to do terrible things. It was obvious whatever… this was, wouldn’t survive that. #Malfoid #HarryPotter

It’s still hard for me to accept this sometimes. I believe I belong in the hottest spot in hell, and yet God died for me and everyone else on the Cross. There is nothing I could ever so to repay this debt.

Diane, we call that a "wife."
What about a woman who wants meals and gifts but never sleeps with you? She can’t be a prostitute if there’s no sex, right? The lesson: don’t have sex with men — they’ll just call you a whore.

BioWare’s obscure, deep, and complex level of writing in 2007 vs. BioWare for the modern audience in 2024. Yes, incompetent millennial and childish writing killed the company for the better.

The dance Dracaena watched Harry nervously approach Cho Chang. Harry: Cho, would you like to go to the Yule Ball with me? Cho: Of course, Harry! I'd love to! Cho smiled at Harry before leaving. Harry stood there, looking strangely quiet. Dracaena: Hmph! Rejected, Potter? Well, well, how pitiful. Fortunately for you, I suppose I could be your dance partner. N-not because I want to, obviously! Harry: Huh? What are you talking about, Dracaena? Dracaena: W-well, since nobody else wants to— Harry: But Cho already agreed! Dracaena's smile disappeared. Dracaena: W-what? Harry: She said yes! We're going together! This is the happiest day of my life! Harry smiled so brightly that Dracaena couldn't bear to look at him. Dracaena: O-oh... I see. W-well, congratulations, Potter. I suppose you're not alone after all. Harry: Thanks, Dracaena! Now, excuse me. I need to find something to wear tomorrow! Dracaena: Y-yes. Of course. Have fun, Harry. Harry: See you tomorrow! Harry hurried away, still smiling. Dracaena stood motionless. Her trembling smile slowly faded. Dracaena: ...Harry? She looked down, desperately blinking back her tears. Dracaena: I was going to ask you... Her lips quivered. Dracaena: I was going to ask you tomorrow... She covered her mouth as the first sob escaped. Dracaena: Why didn't I ask you sooner? Why was I so stupid?! Tears streamed down her cheeks. Dracaena: I wanted to dance with you! I wanted to be the girl you smiled at like that! I wanted to be the one you were so happy to see! Her knees gave way, and she sank against the wall. Dracaena: But you chose her before I could even tell you... She hugged herself, crying harder. Dracaena: Harry, you idiot... I love you. Her voice broke completely. Dracaena: I love you so much, and you don't even know... She remembered all the times she had wanted to tell him, only to hide behind insults and pretend she didn't care. Now she wished she could take every single one of those words back. Dracaena: I don't want you to be happy with someone else... She immediately shook her head, tears falling onto her robes. Dracaena: No... that's selfish. You deserve to be happy. She tried to smile, but it only made her cry harder. Dracaena: Then why does it hurt so much? The corridor was empty. Nobody saw Dracaena Malfoy crying. Nobody heard her whisper his name over and over. Dracaena: Just once... I wanted you to choose me. She pressed her hands against her chest, as though she could somehow stop the pain. Dracaena: I wanted to be your girl, Harry... And with tomorrow's Yule Ball approaching, Dracaena finally understood something heartbreaking. She had spent so long pretending she didn't love Harry that, by the time she was ready to tell him... He had already asked someone else.

Oh it's even better than that. "On September 10, 2025 it was announced that the movie rights to Manacled/Alchemised had been purchased by Legendary Entertainment in a seven-figure deal." I never want to hear SHIT about how men are ruined by porn or whatever. Women in the publishing industry and movie industry are literally selling body posession rape fetish fan-fiction content for seven figures. Men are not the issue here.
I've just learnt, while the boys are reading Malfoid rn, the girls were reading fanfic about Draco graping a mindwiped Hermione in a Handmaid's Tale repopulation program and it was republished as a legally distinct dark romantasy called "Alchemised" that sold over a mil last year

To those of the opinion that Harry Potter "would never" use Sectumsempra on Dracaena, let me remind you that by 7th book, Harry is using both the Cruciatus and the Imperius curses on people.

God using His raw power to save you with or without your consent seems not like the Christ who calls us to repent and to take up our cross and follow Him. It seems like the Allah of the Mohammedans, who says "These to paradise, and I care not. These to Hell, and I care not." An arbitrary monster who saves and damns at his arbitrary pleasure, free of any constraints like reason, good and evil, right and wrong, etc.
