Do you know how the 'Bandhgala' became India’s Official Dress?
In an article on India's World, Vineet Thakur (@vineet1232) wrote, "What should the leaders of a newly independent nation wear? In the years after 1947, this seemingly simple question prompted a prolonged discussion at the highest levels of government. At stake was far more than dress. It was about how India would present itself to the world, and to itself."
However, at the time, these discussions had nearly entirely focused on male dressing. "Belated realisation that women too were in the civil services led to separate regulations for women," he writes.

#Explainer | Foreign policy has traditionally been communicated in a language designed for people who already follow foreign policy. Social media has changed that equation.
In an explainer published in our last issue, 'Diplomacy as Drama', we explain how diplomacy can now be communicated in real time, directly to the public and in formats designed not only to inform but also to attract attention and invite interaction.

Matcha has been shaping Japanese politics for centuries.
"Tea has historically had an important function in the conduct of Japanese politics," writes Senior Fellow at Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Ippeita Nishida.
But what does matcha have to do with power and diplomacy? According to Nishida, "The answer lies beyond the tea room."

BRICS De dollarisation debate | India has UPI. Brazil has Pix. What if they worked together?
"BRICS has long talked about reducing dependence on the dollar." According to Brazilian Economist Gustavo Pessoa, connecting UPI and Pix could be a practical step towards that goal.
However, could linking UPI and Pix help BRICS build a practical cross-border payments alternative?
Pessoa says "The real test lies in the details."

"Blocking Straits Is Easier Said Than Done"
"It is abundantly clear that the blockade imposed by Iran on the Strait of Hormuz is not working very well," writes Vice Admiral AK Chawla (retd), "especially as the US military gets more adept at countering IRGC forces."
In his article for the latest issue of India's World, 'Lessons from Hormuz,' he notes that the United States blockade on Iran isn't watertight either. "As has historically been the case with all blockades, there will always be “blockade runners” willing to take the risk."

Last week we hosted an experts’ workshop, “Women, Peace and Security in India: An Inclusive Agenda”, supported by @GermanyinIndia.
We started the conversation by identifying the many women of WPS in India: women who live with various insecurities, serve in uniform, practice law, report from conflict zones, and shape policy.
The workshop asked four questions: Who are the “women” of WPS? What kinds of insecurity can WPS in India address? What does “peace” mean, and to whom? And what would an inclusive WPS framework for India look like?
Thanks to everyone who joined the conversation, including @HappymonJacob @Tishya_Khillare @swarraj @rivagdas @LtGenHooda @dhanasreej @shaillykedia @Letstransform @swarraj @mihira_sood @RinaKashyap2023 @NatRaghuvanshi @DebotriDhar @Sruthim61 @WISCOMP_India

#WhatTankThinks | In an increasingly volatile geopolitical scenario and changing world order, India’s strategic choices have allowed it to pursue strategic autonomy while maintaining simultaneous engagement with competing powers.
Dr Raghvendra Kumar (@RaghvendraKr_DU) argues that India's strategic framework works on the philosophy of Madhyamā Mārga (Middle Path).
In his paper published by the Foreign Policy Research Institute (@FPRI), he suggests that within this framework, Africa emerges as a critical pillar for India.
