Anything can happen when no one can share news of what's happening. And anything can be said about it later.
Just in: France's Prime Minister asked telecom companies to prepare to block social media platforms. "I wish to have the ability to temporarily suspend access to these services in case of a repeat of urban violence," he wrote. @blast news broke the story.

This is actually a condescending view of working-class people. I grew up in a working-class immigrant family and we ate at Red Lobster and The Cheesecake Factory for "fancy nights out." But even we understood that the White House should not look like the inside of a Red Lobster. Working-class people are not culturally illiterate just because their experiences are shaped by their limited means.
Does Obama not understand that to most Americans the Cheesecake Factory is a very nice and fancy restaurant?

I want a disheveled Gary Oldman delivering one of his beloved Beckett monologues (with a theme tune sung by Mick Jagger doing the world’s worst Mick Jagger impression) and occasionally firing Chekhov’s pistol at Hugo Weaving while swearing in a performatively off-the-cuff way.

Another East German classic for dinner last night: Karlsbader Schnitte. Toast with tomato paste, ham, sliced gherkins and cheese. Then Worcester Sauce (versions of which were produced in the GDR) on top. Washed down with "Grüne Wiese" (Green Meadow): Blue Curacao & orange juice.

Musing on the level of ice-cold narcissism that it must take to watch a man being savaged by a tiger and think, "But what if it was me, and I was stronger than it, and it liked me?" xitter.cf/TrumpTruthOnX/status/2…

Almost no plot. Almost nothing to it at all. A love scene that never happens. No resolution because there is nothing really to resolve. Memory, loss, healing. Real joy, but fleeting. A painting uncovered as lots of other lovely things fade away. One of best books I’ve read for ages.

There’s a certain disingenuousness whereby knowledge workers discount their very significant ideological power by focusing instead on their deficits in economic power, as though shaping worldviews and massaging information flows weren’t in themselves huge sources of social power.

The Pope on AI (and the broad support his intervention has won) makes me think of how the space station in Tarkovsky’s Solaris is filled with not just art, like Brueghel’s Hunters in the Snow, but all sorts of wood panelling and pre-industrial objects: earthly, human things.

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

For the new Neil Peart documentary No One's Disciple, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson invited the drummers who idolized him to sit in. Here's Tool's Danny Carey, one of the greatest drummers alive, taking on Peart's "2112" with them. A master honoring the master.
