Tonight in Brookline, Mass. Boston, come say hello! Stories, songs, guitars, harmonicas, and an electric friggin’ Kalimba. Where else you gonna get that tonight? 😎
Earlier on Easter Sunday, JD Vance to Pope Francis: “I know you have not been feeling great but it’s good to see you in better health.”

Glad some of us L.A. singer songwriters got together to play Bill Morrissey songs on Sunday. 2025 makes the 40th anniversary of Bill's label debut album. Unusually detailed write up from Michael Doherty here:

There are some songwriters whose lyrics have such richness and depth that it feels as if you've just listened to a short story about 25 years in a couple's life condensed into a 3 minute song. Bill Morrissey was one such songwriter. .

News about a show on March 9 here in Los Angeles I think you'll dig:

Please pay attention, y’all. Winds are back 8a Mon - 2p Tue, and the numbers are not good. Much worse than earlier forecasts.

When the world is too absurd for David Lynch to stick around, it’s time for some reflection. How mainstreamly dull and predictable would our cinema and television be without him coming along when he did? Thank you for injecting independent sensibilities into the machine. RIP.
FAA 107 licensed drone pilot here. The TFRs (Temporary Flight Restrictions) are there for a reason. Ignoring NOTAMS (Notice To Airmen AKA Notice to Air Mission) to chase clicks is disgusting. WAY too many illegal and unethical flights posted online.
No one needs to be dealing with dis or mis information right now. Same for speculation. Just don't. Survive, help, deal with the bastards later.
RIP to this neighborhood legend. James Beard Award-winning taco stand that's literally 8x10 inside. 40+ years, and I'm happy to be a customer for 20+ of them. Peace to her family and to everyone who enjoyed Cochinita Pibil at Yuca's in Los Feliz.

This morning required something more revved up than coffee to get started. It required Desmond Dekker. Song title not an invitation to discuss global geopolitics.

Last diner breakfast of this year is coming. The coffee is here. Whether we punctuate our days with laughter or underline them with sorrow, time rolls on just the same. Hope your time ahead is spent in peace, with good company, and with good food.
There is exactly one commercially produced eggnog I would, and did just now, pour a quality bourbon into. And Broguiere's is it. If you know, you know. Thank you SoCal for that seasonal delicacy.
The morning spin on LP(s) today is Bob Dylan's Biograph, the 5 LP box set from 1985 covering 1961-1981. 53 tracks, 18 of them previously unreleased at the time. 3 albums in, and it's cutting straight through this gray morning in L.A.
The morning spin. Dick Gaughan. 1978 Topic Records release. The man never once pulled his punches. Amen.
Not on this album, and penned by Brian McNeill of the Battlefield Band, but here is Gaughan, live and fiery with No Gods And Precious Few Heroes. Still timely:

Peace on earth, goodwill to everyone who isn't trying to make the world a worse place. Reflection and enlightenment to all. Here is the laziest music video I've ever made. Fernando Perdomo and me on the tracks. Trevi Fligg and me on the vocals.
