Context Corner has formally issued a correction to its story, which went viral for falsely stating Houston ISD Superintendent Mike Miles had resigned.
He has not resigned. He is still the state-appointed superintendent.
Context Corner has issued a correction to its Sept. 24 story about the Houston Independent School District’s financial situation.
Following publication, HISD’s Executive Director of Strategic Communications, Lana Hill, clarified that Mike Miles remains the district’s superintendent and that no layoffs have begun.
The district is still reviewing its financial situation, with possible announcements expected in the coming weeks.
Context Corner removed the original story after being informed of the inaccuracies and is publishing this correction to clarify the record.

It’s pretty simple to me. There’s still time to tell the State Board of Education what you think about their proposed reading list. houstonpress.com/news/state-…
Raising test scores and improving education are not the same thing. The state measures one. Parents care about the other.
Houston ISD sees student test scores soar after the state takeover.
When the state took over HISD had 121 D & F rated campuses.
Now there are zero F rated & 18 D rated.
Also the number of A & B rated campuses more than doubled.

HISD students have paid an enormous price for the takeover: fewer rigorous courses, constant staff turnover, scripted instruction, enrollment declines, and endless test prep. Yet the score gains look remarkably similar to gains seen across Texas.

New from @JosephineKLee: Mike Miles’ contract with Houston ISD allowed him to do outside consulting. But contract work as a consultant for Third Future Schools may have violated state law.

(Reposting with typo fixed & your questions answered in thread.)
As our kids prepare for another week of a deeply flawed STAAR, remember that last year Greg Abbott passed a law to “supersize” the STAAR, from 15 to 51 tests by the time a child gets through 8th grade!
(This law goes into effect in 2027.)
Why? Because the more our kids are tested, the more Abbott can divert public school dollars to the profiteers.

“The board made it clear at the board meeting that they were being pressured or threatened by TEA … that the district is under threat of takeover if they don’t make some pretty big changes, and Third Future is the only authorized turnaround partner.”

“It just blows my mind that they’re considering to expand this model," Wray said. "It’s no secret that NES campuses are the campuses hit the hardest with enrollment decline, because these schools are ran like prisons."
