I've been watching films from Cannes' Un Certain Regard selections for over 25 years, and two of the films I've seen from this year's category, IRON BOY and CLUB KID, are among its best. And they are both unlikely Un Certain Regard entries. CLUB KID is written and directed by Jordan Firstman, and he’s crafted a magnificent, funny, sweet (although very, very, VERY R), and unexpected movie, a kind of KRAMER VS. KRAMER for 2026, packing even more of an emotional punch than that multi-Oscar-winning film. pressandindustry.com/blog/cl… @a24 #clubkidmovie

Tom Skerritt’s passing today marks the end of an era, particularly here in the Pacific Northwest, for the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF), and for me. The movies most outlets are calling out from his filmography include ALIEN, M*A*S*H, STEEL MAGNOLIAS, and TOP GUN. But my favorite Skerritt role is intertwined with my favorite memory of the man. We were riding back on the Kingston-to-Edmonds ferry after a late-night auction event, sitting together, and I told him my favorite role of his: pressandindustry.com/blog/re… #tomskerritt  @therealtomskerritt #siff @siffnews

YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING reminds me of the first time I was allowed to stay over at a friend’s house in the second grade. What neither I, my parents, nor possibly even my friend knew, was the couple, his parents, were to divorce within two months. My friend would immediately move away with his mother and I never saw him again. What I distinctly recall, however, even at that young age, was knowing something that was not right—in fact desperately wrong—in that house. pressandindustry.com/blog/yo… #ElizabethHolmes @a24films #amandaseyfried. #nathanfielder #lanceoppenheim #youcanseeeverything

In DIGGER, the unsympathetic, inhuman, venal miser is the fictitious character Digger Rockwell. In THE SOCIAL RECKONING, the villain is a real-life, unsympathetic, inhuman, venal miser named Mark Zuckerberg . pressandindustry.com/blog/th… #thesocialreckoning #aaronsorkin #mikeymadison

DIGGER’s worst enemy is the secrecy around it & WB’s unfortunate choice to hide what DIGGER is really getting at has—at least in the short term—entirely hobbled this complex, rich, damning commentary about political satires and our society at large. pressandindustry.com/blog/di… #digger. #TomCruise

How much can you see in 36 hours at #NYFF64? Besides James Gray & his cast for fest opener, PAPER TIGER (Driver, Teller, Johansson)? And full-throttle, GODZILLA MINUS ZERO #Godzilla_Toho w/Takashi Yamazaki & leads, Ryûnosuke Kamiki & Minami Hamabe? So, yeah, a lot. @FilmLinc

HOPPERS: A sporadically funny, deeply strange, & at times quite scary film from Pixar’s mysterious “Production Babies Labs,” the division running the company since 2019, made up solely of “Production Babies” from the end of early Pixar movies. Nepo-Pixar. bit.ly/4ldUqsc

[Thread] I’ve noticed something odd happening in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. True, there’s plenty of odd things going on in The Shining, but this is really weird. 🧵 1/50

Longtime quality TV director #michaelmorris & writer #ryanbinaco craft a tale of regret, guilt, self-destruction with just a sliver of possible redemption. How'd we miss this? 2/2

I don’t know who gets bumped out but they’re right. #AndreaRiseborough in #tolesliemovie is extraordinary. A warm shot of BARFLY before TENDER MERCIES & CRAZY HEART. Of equal importance: the rest of a an amazing cast w/#marcmaron, #owenteague, #stephenroot & #alllisonjanney. 1/2

Another memorable #criticschoiceawards. From The Dude getting a well-deserved Lifetime Achievement to Brendan Fraser’s tearful, heartfelt acceptance speech, everything, everywhere was lovely. instagram.com/p/Cne-lgZpuLG/…
