Many materials described as bio-leathers still depend on polyurethane (PU), PVC, synthetic scaffolds or binders to create structure and mechanical performance. Lab Grown Leather Ltd has developed a different route through its 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 (𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗣™), where cells are encouraged to form their own extracellular matrix and build tissue from within.
𝗧-𝗥𝗲𝘅 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿™ demonstrates how that platform can be combined with 𝗔𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗔𝗣𝗠). Reported ancient collagen fragments are used with protein inference models to generate candidate collagen sequences, allowing the team to explore how biological structure can be reconstructed and then assessed for useful material characteristics.
One selected candidate showed 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁, suggesting greater potential for collagen cross-linking and improved mechanical performance. Rather than relying on plastic-based components to provide structure, the aim is to engineer more of that performance into the biology of the material itself.
That distinction is central to Lab Grown Leather Ltd's approach. The goal is not simply to make another leather substitute, but to develop 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝘄𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻, 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰-𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲 with properties that can increasingly be directed at the biological level.

.@humaneworldorg partnered with Project Runway Season 22 to create a sustainable fashion challenge. The designers were tasked with utilizing only cruelty-free fabrics to bring animal-inspired outfits to life, all in support of bringing animal welfare to the runway.
“There are beautiful faux furs that look incredible. There’s so much technology in fabric making. I felt like there was a really good way to show people that you can be inspired by a beautiful creature, but in the best way,” says designer and @humaneworldorg collaborator Christian Siriano.

We've dedicated over a decade to ending the dog meat industry in South Korea—and this work is paying off. We've shut down dog meat farms, rescued nearly 2,800 dogs and worked with policymakers to phase out the dog meat industry entirely by 2027.

In about one hour, I will be arraigned on 4 felony counts and face up to 30 years in prison for taking this little guy out of a Ridglan cage.
In addition to charging me, the government has banned me from contacting my co-defendants and is now trying to undermine my right to a speedy trial.
But every corrupt and unconstitutional act by the government will simply make our case even stronger. We press forward to defend the right to rescue—and to defend the tens of thousands of other dogs (and billions of other animals) who remain trapped in cruel cages.
Most importantly, we defend James. Every time I come home, he jumps in my lap and begs to be picked up. It was the first place he ever felt safe. Rescuing him was not a crime. It was one of the best things I've ever done. I relish the opportunity to defend rescuing James in court.
