On the theme of hotels, the government - @DefenceHQ - would do well to enforce an estate-wide accommodation availability and booking system rather than have empty rooms hoarded and hidden to avoid the inconvenience of visitors in 'my' mess. ... /
Turns out governments can do things if they have the willpower. We should do likewise (without the gators) and stop spending taxpayers hard earned on hotels

Similarly building dedicated military 'hotels' for the main areas like RAF Lincolnshire, London etc rather than private provision. (And it doesn't have to be as shit as the Pink Palace)

... but whatever the solution it shouldn't be ten person rooms and look like an asylum clearing centre!

Amazing footage showing the launch of ballistic missiles earlier today by Iran against Israel, from the cockpit of a commercial aircraft flying over Dubai.

⚡️🇵🇰Very impressive breakdown by Pakistan Airforce spokesman Ahmed Aurangzeb of the 'largest air battle in history' that allegedly took place yesterday.

Replying to @thewarzonewire
A sensor system, developed with serious customer investment by Leonardo, is credibly claimed to detect and track radar-stealthy aircraft. It doesn't work when developed in the US by, errm, the company who makes those aircraft. Just. Fancy. That.

This is a great article explaining the development pathway and current testing of "Radar 2" advanced AESA for Royal Air Force Typhoons (Read beyond the headline) Note the gushing hyperbole from RAF seniors in paragraph 7! - via @Aero_GlobalNews | Jon Lake aerospaceglobalnews.com/news…

Not sure I completely agree with the analysis on how cautiously Ukraine would operate AEW when it is a critical enabler to manoeuvre and SA. Russia will still face an air threat to any of its OCA efforts forbes.com/sites/davidaxe/20…

Between 1980 and 1994 the Royal Navy submarine service conducted over 130 highly classified missions to gather intelligence or covert operations. Even though the files are closed, it is still possible to draw some significant conclusions from the archives. /1

Necessity may be the mother of invention but its Ukrainian siblings are cunning, innovation and guile. Its cousin is probably an agile industrial base.
Ukrainians put 8,000 cellphones connected to microphones on 6-foot poles around the country to detect incoming Russian drones. They detected 84/84 and shot down 80 of them with AA guns. Cost: $500ea --- Gen James B Hecker, Commander US Air Forces, Europe youtu.be/1O0sRM-uY7E?t=109

How much of this figure is existing funding already committed to Protector, Tiquila and Ukraine? @DefenceHQ @grantshapps
We’re investing £4.5 billion to rapidly deliver advanced drones in to the hands of the @BritishArmy, @RoyalNavy and @RoyalAirForce Going further than ever before, this investment will make sure our Armed Forces have the cutting edge technologies they need to keep Britain safe.

C'mon @elonmusk and @cb_doge ... if you're going to selectively re-share a fact in isolation and manufacture a non-existent @Google search result to make it more engaging, could you at least make the number of results a real number? What is actually "3,88,00,000"?

US Army ditching future crewed rotary recce programme, also phasing out Shadow and Raven SUAS. "We are learning from the battlefield—especially in Ukraine—that aerial reconnaissance has fundamentally changed" - Chief of Staff of the Army, army.mil/article-amp/273594/…

#BREAKING. A couple of hours ago, #Ukraine shot down two Russian 'high value' aircraft over the Russia-controlled Azov Sea - A-50 Mainstay, an early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft and Ilyushin IL-22, the airborne command post - the deputy head of the Ukr. parliamentary committee on security & defense Yuri Mysyahin said for the Ukrainian media. Both aircraft and their crews presumably vanished. It means, that during the war Russia already lost 2 out of 9 A-50s (the Ukrainian drone destroyed the first one on the airfield in Belarus in February 2023) and 2 out of 20 IL-22/IL-22M (the previous one was shot down by the Wagner mercenaries in June last year).

(1/4) Affording a larger UK Defence Vote: Among the usual gammon comments there are some interesting themes. I have a few suggestions to offer too!
If you want a larger defence budget, what other budget do you want to cut?

(3/4) Prerequisites include ruthless prioritisation within the set budget and proper holding to account of senior leadership that 'manages' this against political direction. Not convinced either are consequential or visible.

(4/4) For the love of CDEL can we get serious about reforming acquisition and support and finally implement ANY of umpteen reports that admire the problem? Yes it's a moving target but failing to get any rounds down range is as credible as Watchkeeper. publications.parliament.uk/p…
