Congratulations to Lorne Doerksen on his election as Premier of British Columbia. I look forward to working together to continue strengthening the relationship between our provinces and building a strong, united Canada. I would also like to thank David Eby for his leadership, friendship, and partnership over the years.

Not to forget Walter Weir (though many have), the Manitoba premier who decided calling a snap election while the opposition NDP was leaderless was a “can’t-lose” proposition. And lost. digitalcollections.lib.umani…
David Eby is about to learn the same lesson about political opportunism that David Peterson (1990) and Jim Prentice (2015) learned.

Big congratulations to @Margare7a on winning her seat tonight. Not just an advocate for resource industries, but someone who gets that for many workers and communities, it's how they lift themselves up.

Being a great lieutenant is no guarantee of being a great general.
BC - David Eby has resigned as leader of the BC NDP

David Eby was a great lieutenant - he played a key part in John Horgan's successful premiership, especially around ICBC and housing. That will be overshadowed by, well, this.

The 2018 BC proportional representation referendum looks VERY FAMILIAR. Just change greenish to orangeish! #bcpoli

Damning. NDP could still win Port Coquitlam, which they did reliably until just now. The only interior lead? Kootenay-Monashee, home to a long line of genuine blue-collar social democrats.
If the BC NDP get blanked east of Burnaby Mountain and south of the Fraser, that's a hell of a message from the public about the party's bias and blind spots. #bcpoli

Striking a classic Prairie New Democrat pose (see under: Gary Doer.)
I asked @nenshi how he can champion pipelines when federal NDP Leader @avilewis is against new ones. Nenshi: "I don't want to be unkind, but the federal NDP is really not relevant in Alberta. Nobody talks about them, nobody worries about them." 🎧 podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…

Beyond the silliest caricature of a crusading woke SJW posing as a journalist, is what Duncan Kinney just admitted to doing.

Two things caught my eye in @jonnywakefield’s excellent report: “The trial was delayed for years while Kinney pursued pre-trial applications, including one that argued he was targeted as a critic of then-police chief Dale McFee, now Alberta’s top public servant.” He not only committed the crime, he also smeared the Police Chief along the way. Second, “Kinney was initially scheduled to face a jury trial, but defence counsel @TomEngel dropped the jury last week.” This suggests to me that Kinney had his “Come to Jesus” moment late in the day. I wonder if an absolute or conditional discharge will be sought. I have learned that the best indicator of remorse is an admission and apology at the earliest opportunity. This history is the opposite of that. Why is genuine remorse important? Arbitration jurisprudence states that without genuine remorse, there is little likelihood of reflection and the rehabilitation potential is poor. Lastly, I am grateful for local journalists like Mr. Wakefield. The court beat is a hard one, but it’s important for the community. Support good local journalism and subscribe. It’s not expensive, and it’s important.
.@duncankinney: ➡️ Rode his bike to a statue; ➡️ He defaced it; ➡️ He then returned after sunrise to take photos of the vandalism; ➡️ He emailed the Ukrainian Youth Unity Complex, asking for comment and their opinion on whether Shukhevych was a Nazi; and ➡️ He then filed a story for @ProgressAlberta in which said he didn’t know who was responsible.

The tea has finally spilled: Duncan Kinney vandalized a controversial monument, published fake reports making it look like an unknown actor while implying Edmonton Police (who he'd been criticizing for years) were running a set-up against him.
STORY, updates to come: Edmonton former journalist Duncan Kinney has admitted to spray painting a bust of Ukrainian World War II leader Roman Shukhevych with the words "actual Nazi," then writing about it, claiming he didn't know who did it. edmontonjournal.com/news/cri…

This admission doesn't surprise me. Neither does years of Kinney BSing anyone who'd listen, until an admission of guilt right before trial. Between that and Kinney making a mockery of journalism, using his own publication to spread his made-up claims, leniency isn't on order.

A political push I can get behind. Vote for candidates with solid stances and who aren't insanely driven to hold office. Brady Rogers is both. I assume he doesn't really want to be an icon, but he may also be stuck with that role.
Replying to @IanKing
My politics are whatever replaces every politician with more Brady Rogers.
