“The initiative comes with student support...” I believe that disabled students are not included in this, or not consulted at all. Paper straws are not a viable substitute, and for a public accommodation which requires certain students to use @RITDining this is concerning.

Shoutout to whoever wrote “ADA violations on campus” on @reportermag’s suggestion board outside their office. I would love to see that.

When I took a night class at my college and the elevator broke so I was stuck in the basement. I called public safety and they insisted I could just walk up the stairs, no matter how many times I said I was in a wheelchair. Then they said I should just find someone to carry me.

Why am I spending so much money for a school that said they have access services when those services are in fact not accessible?

like if they can't guarantee me access services then why am i spending thousands and thousands of dollars to go here, when i can get the same equally terrible service at a public school in florida for 1/10th the cost?

can my remote captionists start
1 - showing up for my classes
2 - staying for the whole class

My first year as a wheelchair user, and my first year at RIT, I missed every 8 am class for a month because they didn't plow or shovel until 9 am.
When @RITtigers conducts #COVID19 testing and has people asking if anybody needs interpreters, they should probably HAVE interpreters so that when someone says yes they have access.
Today someone answered yes, but got sent through the testing process with no interpreter.

I'd love to know RIT's justification for disabling the automatic door buttons outside midnight oil. Nothing more embarrassing than half a dozen students staring at you as you try to get inside.

I love when RIT demolishes the ramp and only accessible door into one of the busiest buildings on campus
Good luck to the @RITNTID students who are already dealing with video lectures not being captioned on the first day of classes.
Reminder that all DSO-registered students are entitled to their accommodations with this remote learning. INCLUDING EXTENDED TIME. In the past there have been issues with that specific accommodation.
Which is kind of funny because disabled students have been asking for this for a long time but were told it “wasn’t possible” and would be punished for not being able to attend class.
An update on students returning to campus:
Although on-campus housing remains open, students are not required to return to campus. Classes are still scheduled to resume, through alternative methods, on Monday March 23. Read more at the link. rit.edu/coronavirus?utm_sour…
I reached out questioning the aforementioned policies, and have confirmation from multiple people that Ritter will now allow wheelchairs and mobility aids on ice!

ALT Screenshot of an email that reads: We do allow wheelchairs on the ice during Public Skate, and I have asked our staff to have any signage to reflect this. We only ask that the rink staff is notified before taking the ice so that they can be prepared to monitor. Thank you again and please don’t hesitate to reach out to us again! Luke M. Mekker, Executive Director. University Arenas | Finance & Administration.

“Disability is a part of life. Build on a foundation of respect, presume competence and see the value in the disability experience.” #RIT’s new director of the Disability Services Office sees disabilities as identities, and not something to fear. 💗 bddy.me/2vO3Whl

its great that rit is making an effort to highlight accessibility, but i wish this conference was a bit more accessible? many students with disabilities would love to attend but it being on a school day and costing money to an already marginalized community makes me go hmm
On March 17, #RIT will be hosting the annual Conference on Effective Access Technology, focusing on bringing light to new ideas to help those with mobility issues. Learn more about the conference: bddy.me/391akQC
