When I took a night class at my college and the elevator broke so I was stuck in the basement. I called public safety and they insisted I could just walk up the stairs, no matter how many times I said I was in a wheelchair. Then they said I should just find someone to carry me.

Why am I spending so much money for a school that said they have access services when those services are in fact not accessible?
Make It Accessible Cowards retweeted
like if they can't guarantee me access services then why am i spending thousands and thousands of dollars to go here, when i can get the same equally terrible service at a public school in florida for 1/10th the cost?

can my remote captionists start
1 - showing up for my classes
2 - staying for the whole class

My first year as a wheelchair user, and my first year at RIT, I missed every 8 am class for a month because they didn't plow or shovel until 9 am.

I'd love to know RIT's justification for disabling the automatic door buttons outside midnight oil. Nothing more embarrassing than half a dozen students staring at you as you try to get inside.

I love when RIT demolishes the ramp and only accessible door into one of the busiest buildings on campus

its great that rit is making an effort to highlight accessibility, but i wish this conference was a bit more accessible? many students with disabilities would love to attend but it being on a school day and costing money to an already marginalized community makes me go hmm

I asked some folks who work at Midnight Oil/RIT Dining Services, and they said 1) Midnight Oil does not carry plastic straws at all currently, and 2) you could ask, but a lot of these decisions even their supervisors do not have control over 😕

all dorm ramps, all downhill surfaces, all walkways, literally everywhere that is wheelchair accessible needs salting/plowing. it is unfair to me and others on campus who use mobility aids to be at risk due to lack of care from maintenance and public safety.

i talked to my boss yesterday and she said they have plastic straws Only for disability. idk how theyll give them out or even let people know they have that but thats what i was told

This isn't acceptable, and if you would have asked the disabled community to begin with you would know that
Make It Accessible Cowards retweeted
having an "accessible" bathroom with no automatic door, where its heavy and requires someone else to open it while you get in, is so obnoxious to have in the literal dorm you live in

Accessibility is a constant issue around campus, and public accomodations are a necessity. The needs of disabled people need to be acknowledged and addressed. Disabled people need to be included in decision making processes.

Did you consult a single disabled person before making this decision? The RIT disabled community is extremely concerned because we will no longer be able to access drinks on campus without straws (and no, paper straws are not an acceptable substitute)

There are also no accessible bathrooms in CoLA @RITtigers

Hey @RITtigers what happened to @RITNTID being a “crown jewel”? Why is your academic affairs department discriminating against deaf people? - a 2008 graduate

i email rit about getting an accessible room at their inn based off me being chronically ill with little mobility, they tell me to "feel better" and that they cant because im a student, bro thats not how *chronic* illness works and honestly its inexcusable that i have to suffer
