ALT Cartoon image from GDA Event with 150+ disabled people. Caption says "With political buy-in..." and the image is a woman with speech bubble saying "We can shift the dial". She is pointing to a barometer with the heading "Disability Strategy" and the words "Disabled People's rights". The pointer which measures change on the barometer has moved showing that we CAN shift the dial and improve disabled people's rights IF we get political buy in.

ALT #DisabledPeopleDemandJustice ‘We are truly shocked to hear reports that the National Care Service will be delayed or scrapped altogether. This cannot be allowed to happen when wholesale reform is so urgently needed.’ ‘Disabled people of all ages need change, and the status quo is not an option because disabled people are suffering. We need vital support to live a life of dignity and choices that non-disabled people take for granted.’ Read our open letter now! ALT Photograph of DPO member Chris. She is wearing big yellow, blue and black glasses with a knitted scarf to match. Chris is smiling and wearing a black and white striped top. Across the photograph is the quote "People are afraid to say things have changed because they are worried they will lose what they already have. I have come across many advisors who don't get that."

ALT Ask 1: Increase investment in the Advice in Accessible Settings Fund to enable a focus on accessibility of existing projects providing welfare rights and debt information and support. We asked Chris what accessibility looks like. “There needs to be understanding of those hidden impairments and how it impacts light, noise and heat. Information needs to be in plain English and available in different formats. I’ve come across several benefits advisors that just don’t get that at all. I believe that more advisors need to be made disability aware.” Underneath the quote is the hashtag 'Disabled People Demand Justice' followed by the organisational logos of Disability Equality Scotland, Inclusion Scotland and Glasgow Disability Alliance.

ALT Portrait of DPO member Bridie. She has short red hair and is wearing glasses, pink lipstick and a pink fluffy jumper with pearls on the collar. Across the photograph is the quote "It's vital that we have Disabled People's Organisations. They are run by disabled people, for disabled people, so they know the barriers and collectively have all the solutions." Underneath the photograph is the hashtag 'Disabled People Demand Justice' in large purple font.

ALT Ask 3: Invest in and protect funding for Disabled People's Organisations. We asked Bridie why she supports the campaign. Bridie says, “DPOs are unique organisations run by disabled people, for disabled people. We can count on DPOs to uphold our own views because they believe in them. I feel we are disappearing. We need to be visible and out there, to have our voices heard. DPOs are non-judgemental. They will listen to you, so you know you are in a safe space and know you have a voice. They will help you in any way they can in order for you to be able to live your life, in the best way you can, with the support that you need.” Underneath the quote is the hashtag 'Disabled People Demand Justice' in large purple font, followed by the logos of the 3 organisations: Disability Equality Scotland, Inclusion Scotland and Glasgow Disability Alliance.

ALT Photo of DPO member Derek. He is wearing a blue zip-up hoodie, with a waterproof jacket over the top. Across the picture is the quote "Every time I chapped the door, the information was not in an accessible format. It wasn’t tailored for my personal circumstances, and I ended up in debt. It wasn’t until I asked if a DPO could help and they resolved the issues.” Below the image is the hashtag 'Disabled People Demand Justice' in large purple font.

ALT Ask 1: Increase investment in the Advice in Accessible Settings Fund to enable a focus on accessibility of existing projects providing welfare rights and debt information and support. We asked Derek why he supports our campaign. Derek says, "I approached a number of organisations for help, support and advice, and they promised the world, but delivered nothing. It’s because their infrastructure was unable to support the additional needs that I required. They claim to advocate for the social model of disability but my experiences has been, they don’t. They put the onus back on the disabled person who has approached them initially. This is because they don’t have skills or the resources to take steps forward, and I mean for somebody like myself, I need support to travel and the cost. I was unemployed at the time and I didn’t have that spare income, and you need that assistive technology when you are visually impaired.” #DisabledPeopleDemandJustice DPO logos: DES, Inclusion Scotland & GDA.

ALT A photograph of DPO member Susan. She is wearing a maroon turtleneck with a grey cardigan. Susan is laughing and throwing her head back. Across the photograph is the quote "The confidence that I have gained over the years has been amazing. You are learning about your rights, your human rights and you're learning about equality. These are so important and so relevant to us- it's essential." Beneath the photograph is the hashtag 'Disabled People Demand Justice' in large purple font.

ALT Ask 3: Invest in and protect funding for Disabled People's Organisations. We asked Susan why she support this campaign. Susan says “For me, it’s crucial, I think we are getting faded into society, I would say. I think the less we are seen and the quieter that we are, the better it is for some people in the Government. Our voices within DPOs are strong and loud, but not everybody is in a DPO. You’re speaking not only on behalf of yourself, you’re speaking for 1000’s of people, because it really is horrendous what is happening for disabled people.” Underneath is the hashtag 'Disabled People Demand Justice' Logos of Disability Equality Scotland, Inclusion Scotland and GDA.

ALT Ask 3: Invest in and protect funding for Disabled People's Organisations. We asked Susan what needs to change so DPOs are seen and heard by the Scottish Government. Susan says, “Scottish Government come to us on a number of occasions to consult policies and legislation. They listen, but they don’t hear. We are giving solutions because we are living the life, so you’re speaking from experience. It’s not somebody sitting with a theory or plan; it’s an actual fact. “That’s the strength. We are not here to make money, not here for a big advertisement campaign, just here to put it back in to the community.” Underneath is the hashtag 'Disabled People Demand Justice' Below are the organisation logos of Disability Equality Scotland, Inclusion Scotland and Glasgow Disability Alliance.
