#biaspring2024 At least as many hospitalisations due to RSV in older adults as in under 5s and significant mortality. Hopefully vaccination of this group will have major impact.
#biaspring2024 - risk of strongy hyperinfection syndrome even with short and lowish doses of steroids and role for PCR if microscopy negative
#bia2024 Excellent presentation of hantavirus case emphasising principle that if you are thinking lepto, think hanta too!!
Lowbury lecture - Benedetta Allegranzi Components of a multi-modal response to HCAI. Interventions requiring varied skill-sets emphasising importance of building a strong team in improving patient safety. @HIS_infection @biainfection @MicrobioSoc #FIS2023
Fully support this. Smoking has multiple harmful infection associations too - poorer outcomes from sepsis, increased surgical site infection, peripheral vascular disease assoc infections as well as the massive increase in incidence and severity of respiratory tract infection
Smoking causes multiple harms including stillbirths, lung disease, heart disease, stroke and dementia. A quarter of cancer deaths are caused by smoking.
Most smokers regret starting.
This will prevent ill health, disability and death.

Replying to @InfectionDave
Great work, supported by great lab staff both bms and mla providing solid micro processing and support, team Sheffield LLAU and LabMed
Excellent work from @mikepetrie4, reviewing the outcomes of intended 2- stage exchange for PJI in Sheffield with less than a week of systemic antibiotics in the majority of cases.
Aggressive surgical debridement & high-dose, targeted antibiotic cement beads at time of first-stage surgery, without use of prolonged systemic antibiotics, has a high rate of success.

We are pleased to announce a collaboration with @biainfection!
We’ll shortly have a new website made in partnership with BIA where you can access our shownotes.
We hope this will expand our reach to Infection trainees in UK & beyond! Details to follow!
Fabulously energetic, engaging and informative start to the final day of #ECCMID2023 from @ClareWarrell introducing the soon to be published updated @biainfection eosinophilia guidelines.
Excellent meet experts session on febrile neutropenia with Carlota Gudiol. No role for serial repetition of BCs in patients with *just* persisting fever. Limited role for routine addition of gpos cover. Individualised duration based on clinical status - can often stop earlier
Fully support my junior colleagues striking today. There can be no triumphalism about the strike - terrible that it has come to this - but, since 2008, doctors’ pay has fallen progressively behind competing professions and overseas medics threatening recruitment and retention
So proud of these girls - national u16 netball finals and although not all results went their way, they all gave everything and ran some of the best teams in the country including eventual finalists very close. Also raised awareness and >£500 for @ThrombosisUK
What a rollercoaster of a ride today the way that each and every player stepped up, united as a team and never gave up!!! We are so so so proud of you all 💫🌟💫💪😊🤩 @WGHSYorkshire

Great to see this move by @CIDJournal & hope it supports more journals to do the same (& to be fair the tide is turning on this issue).
Initial paper submission should focus on the research question, data & interpretation. If that bit is not robust, the formatting is irrelevant.
Hey #IDTwitter, especially those out there doing clinical research: Excited that @CIDJournal now offers format free submissions.
Another big change coming soon -- stay tuned!

Provision of first class emergency care to all has been a fundamental strength of the NHS since its inception so this is v. distressing to see. There are holes in the cheese outside human control but allowing others to grow ever larger ensures catastrophe
