Ultimately, based on lander readiness, NASA will determine which company will be first selected to safely deliver astronauts to the Moon’s surface and back to lunar orbit in 2028. A second crewed landing opportunity will follow. More: go.nasa.gov/4suonI8

NASA’s Orion spacecraft — with crew — will dock with Mark 2 in lunar orbit. Then, two astronauts transfer to the lander and descend to the Moon’s South Pole. After surface operations, Mark 2 returns to Orion, where the crew transfers for their journey back to Earth.

Blue Origin’s Blue Moon Mark 2 lander will operate differently. Blue Origin will use three transfer stages that operate like a multistage rocket to launch into low Earth orbit, and then enter lunar orbit. Each transfer stage separates as its propellant runs out.

While Orion is docked with Starship, Starship will perform a trans-lunar injection burn to bring the connected spacecraft to lunar orbit. Starship will bring two astronauts to the lunar surface for several days before delivering them back to Orion for the ride back to Earth.

UPDATE 3.0: SpaceX's Starship Flight 14 post-launch (unofficial) infographic. SpaceX recently released drone footage of the S41 splashdown, so I have modified my artwork from the bellyflop to the splashdown to correspond with Flight 14’s conclusion.

Just thought I’d share what I have coming up, infographic wise. Next week I’ll be putting together a Starship Flight 42 graphic, this is going to be very exciting, I’m also thinking of doing an update of a catch graphic I did a few years. I have just started researching both the Griffin-1 and Intuitive Machines MI-3 lunar missions, finding it very hard sourcing reference material. The concept art for Griffin doesn’t match the official clean room images. For instance, I noticed that Griffin-1 will carry two rovers but the official concept art only shows one. I have just completed a new t-shirt design for Marcus House and am currently contracted to a local aerospace company doing some concept work for them. And yes, I’m about to start work on a new 2027 calendar and book number 4. It’s a very exciting time to be a rocket enthusiast.

Slight correction, I meant to say Flight 15, “Ship 42”. I think I have the number 42 imprinted on my brain. A special number to many people.

NASA’s Perseverance rover has driven farther than any vehicle on another world. On October 11, 2026, its odometer hit 28.10mi/45.22km, surpassing Opportunity’s 28.06mi/45.16km record (2004–2018). The milestone came on sol (a Martian day) 2,006 after just 5.5 years, a distance Opportunity needed nearly 15 years to cover. Here is my original (unofficial) infographic showing how that journey to break the record began.
