We are living in a timeline in which the wealthiest man on Earth can help elect the US president and then go on stage at his inauguration and do the Hitler salute - not once, but twice - and people go "Nah, he is just too stupid to know what he is doing" and it almost tracks.
There's no way to measure greatness or relevance or genius and what not, but never have as many of my friends - most of them not even film people - messaged me with utter shock and sorrow that a filmmaker they admire had passed away, and that's gotta be some kind of metric.
It is so naive - and therefore so human - to hope and wish, amidst the news of endless suffering, and war, and genocide, for a happy anything, but here we are. Happy new year, folks.
