Lately I'm just trying to remember everything I possibly can. Then ask myself why these thoughts and why these memories? What is the function of my dysfunction?

I see this post going around a lot, but many people seems to miss the point imho. As a premise, this is not a jab to the artist here, nor about artists against AI. It is about the industry behind. The thing is, if you are someone that can charge a lot of money for a luxury product, props to you. However I've been told that this is a "standard", and that's the problem. Imagine if every single car had the same price of a Ferrari or Lamborghini, but without the brand recognition. If you want to drive, you need to make a mortgage. Would you like that? Sure, in some American cities this would probably be cheap. Spare change. But everywhere else, that's extremely expensive. Even with a decent job, you need to save and make sacrifices. I would need to decide for example if, after months of saving, should I upgrade my PC with 2.5k or buy 10 seconds of animation. 10 seconds! The PC would help me greatly, not just for entertainment, but also many other things. What am I going to do with 10 seconds of animation? If you are rich and can afford to burn away money with luxury items, like a famous Dog shocker, good for you. But you can't expect us "poor" people to have the same reaction. Yes, quality and experience should be paid more than average, but the issue here is the average. Is this why artists are so against AI? It was never about the "human soul'', the "environment" or whatever, right? Just be honest, you all want to make luxury products for customers, not art. We live in a capitalist society after all, and that's ok, but honesty will always be received better. Just own it. Again, I have nothing against the artist in the post, just wanted to comment on the commission industry, that's all.

There seems to be some confusion amongst some people, so I will explain it as clearly as I can: Australia’s sex discrimination act was created for women, on the basis of our sex. When it was enacted in 1984 (ominous year, in hindsight) employment was a big part of it. There was a part of the act, section 7D, that allowed “special measures” where things exclusively for women weren’t even classed as discrimination, basically when it was being a woman is what actually mattered in the situation. Specific employment/opportunity provisions and… woman-only spaces fell/fall into this category. In 2013, the Gillard amendments introduced “gender identity” while taking the definitions of woman & man out of the act. Sex was never defined, but in a normal world it didn’t have to be. It could only have meant one thing (a mistake, again in hindsight). By the time the trans absurdity hit fever pitch, Australian institutions were captured. This included those meant to be the custodians of the SDA. Suddenly, all they cared about was “gender identity” aka transgender ideology. When the Tickle v Giggle case came along, it started with an Australian Human Rights Commission complaint. To settle it, aka not have it advance to federal court, I was expected to just agree with transgender ideology. I don’t. I wish I could say I completely understood the magnitude at the time, but it’s almost impossible to. You think you do, but you don’t really until it hits you like a bus. But what I did know, instinctively, was that if I folded, I couldn’t live with it, nor would it help because all it signaled was that “we” would just accept it if threatened. I found myself in a position to challenge the absurdity, and I did, because I knew not doing it would have been worse no matter what. Obviously, everyone knows now, the courts ruled against me in every way they could. From what a woman is, to 7D, to damages. I lost - and have lost - everything. But what does it mean to everyone else in reality? It means the sex discrimination commissioner told the court that the ordinary meaning of woman includes men who claim to be women, and the court accepted that. Men who claim to be women are women in Australia, via the only legislation they have to validate it. It means that for every aspect of the SDA, per the SDC’s demand, woman includes men who claim to be women. From employment to women only spaces to pregnancy protections, because of section 7D. Did we warn about this in our court submissions and arguments? Yes. That was actually our entire case. You can read it. It’s all publicly available. The high court said that we would have no possibility of success. We were arguing that women is adult human female and this matters in, tada, section 7D. That was it. The high court said “hell no way”. The high court is captured too. As it stands, due to legal precedent, a special measure for women based on sex does not provide a defense to gender identity discrimination. That means that all special measures for women fall to gender identity, which will only be used by men who claim to be women, and includes - tada - employment, and women only spaces. It means that men who claim to be women have more rights than actual women, while simultaneously taking away our rights. I don’t know how many more times I could say the “Tickle v Giggle” case is about more than “just” one app, I’ve been saying it for almost 5 years, but I will continue to do it until everyone understands. They wiped women’s rights off the map. It’s a f—ing mess. It doesn’t work. It’s incoherent. It’s ideological. It writes women out of law. It’s corruption. It’s totalitarian. It’s bullsh-t. It’s the test of any government: are you ok with legislating a lie?

Tim Sweeney is saying what many in the industry are too afraid to say publicly. You can criticize AI all you want, but harassing developers, threatening them, and trying to destroy years of their hard work simply because they use a tool you dislike is indefensible. Disagree with the technology, not someone's right to create.

Yep. They are burning down the businesses of good developers to enforce their politics. A year from now they’ll all be using AI, games will be better and made faster, and they’ll pretend their hate mob posting the death threats wasn’t wrong but merely misunderstood.

Is it legal for police to track everywhere you drive? @bennjordan compares @flocksafety to police following an innocent person's car for a month and logging every stop in a database that police nationwide can search, which would amount to stalking. @fatehinorfolk counters that he wouldn't like it either, but the Supreme Court allows police to observe anyone in public, so it doesn't violate the Fourth Amendment. All of the Anti-AI crowd is game developers, and artists unwilling to take advantage of tools. Unwilling to adapt they will fall behind, because if AI can just handwave a great product, customers could prompt it themselves. Competition is growing and people want you out.

AI in video games are a confusing topic to me. @TimSweeneyEpic recently got a lot of flak for pushing AI in game development. There are opinion pieces left and right condemning AI use in game development. Here I am, having worked for ~6 months on a game I released on Steam last week. And my sin, apparently, was using AI and disclosing it. The comment section was pretty clear on that. It's confusing to me. AI is a tool. IDE is a tool. A programming language is a tool. A graphics API is a tool. We're just using tools. I've been writing software for about 3 decades now, I'd like to think that I know what I'm doing and am pretty good at it. I see AI as an incredible productivity booster. It does some things that I pride myself on being good at, such as teasing out a math formula or optimizing an algorithm better than me most of the time (with a lot of handholding, granted), but for the most part it makes things I find tedious - fast. As I software engineer, and a game maker, I take relatively little pride in knowing a programming language, or remembering 100 shortcuts in an IDE, or knowing a programming language spec by heart. I remember the first time I needed to make an animated 3d model, almost 15 years ago now, and it took me about a week of full-time effort to get anywhere. I didn't feel particularly proud, I felt frustrated, I had a clear idea, but the tool and its complexity were getting in the way. Well, the tools are better now. Blender is better, animation tools are better, and there are AI models that keep improving at an incredible pace. Ultimately, when I write a piece of software, or work on a game - I rarely think about the tools, they are a means to an end, not the point in itself.

If you have worked in the game industry (or tech) for the last 15 years then you know what Avellone is saying is true. Political activism and cronyism is to blame for killing these companies, because it ostracizes passionate devs who care about making fun games and instead promotes those who care about make games to support leftist agendas. What you end up with are companies who only care about gamers who share their same woke ideology, while ostracizing the majority of passionate gamers who once made up their base. You can't stay in business with this model. I don't understand why people are surprised when this happens again and again. When you hire based on political cronyism instead of passion and merit you can expect the same results. Gamers want to have FUN when they play games. They want games to be a break from the doldrums of life. They don't want them to be vehicles to ram woke activism down their throats. They get enough of that from everywhere else. 🤦‍♂️
Chris Avellone (Planescape, KOTOR 2, and Fallout: New Vegas) just dropped a MEGATON NUKE regarding BioWare's hiring practices... "...when applicants would apply to the studio, the producer would go through their LinkedIn to see what posts they liked, and if he disagreed with their political/social Like, he'd advocate not to hire them based on their Like." ITS TRUE. EVERYTHING WE'VE BEEN SAYING. ITS ALL TRUE. HOLY SHIT!

OK FINE!! YOU HATERS WIN!! 🙄😂 I’ll stop using AI to create my artwork. BUT… I have a few very reasonable conditions. 😁 First, I need an actual human artist who will be available to me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at my beck and call. This artist must be capable of reaching directly into my imagination and recreating EXACTLY what I’m picturing in my head, regardless of how bizarre, elaborate, physically impossible, or utterly nonsensical my vision might be. 🤔 If the finished artwork differs from my mental image by even the slightest detail, I expect an immediate revision. Or twelve. Or forty-seven. Whatever it takes. Naturally, all revisions must be completed promptly, cheerfully, and without the slightest hint of frustration. In fact, I expect this artist to enthusiastically thank me for the privilege of correcting their mistakes while showering me with compliments about my extraordinary creative vision. 🥰🙌 And finally, because I’m a reasonable man who believes artists deserve to be compensated for their hard work, I’m prepared to pay a VERY generous $0.12 per completed piece of artwork. 😎 That’s right. TWELVE WHOLE CENTS!! Unlimited revisions included, of course. I’m not made of money. 🙄 So… who’s ready to become my personal, human-powered, imagination-to-art conversion machine? 😁🙌 Serious inquiries only, please. DM me so we can begin our first project together. And PLEASE, no AI-generated applications. I have standards. 🤣🤣

AI democratizes the arts & helps underprivileged artists most. It also helps disabled creatives like me use our minds & spirits to create when our flesh no longer can. Most AI-doomers are mentally locked in fight-or-flight mode when creativity excels in the mind’s executive mode

When I worked in tech support we would joke about how you could probably answer the phone with any accent if you wanted and that the caller would probably default to believing it. We never did though, QC is always listening, and they know I’m not a pirate. 👀
The deeper problem beyond the fact that Elizabeth Holmes is a pathological liar is that her victims succumbed to "Truth Default" theory: Given limited time/access to fact check what people claim, most of us default to believing what we're told is true (e.g., someone tells me they are a Vietnam vet I have neither the time nor resources to check). Most of the time most people are relatively truthful, so Truth Default works as a cognitive heuristic (and liars can get away with lying some of the time). HOWEVER: that doesn't apply to investors, who have a fiduciary responsibility ("due diligence") to fact check claimants before investing. That was not always done in the case of Holmes, in part because they were charmed by her youthful looks, sultry voice, Steve Jobs-wannabe turtlenecks, and her bold promises that Theranos would be The Next Big Thing that investors did not want to miss out on. So while justice is rightly being served against Holmes, the victims of such scams carry some responsibility for letting themselves be fooled. No one held a gun to their head and made them invest. They chose to do so, and because our life outcomes are, in part, self-determined, victims must take some responsibility. No, this is not "blaming the victim." Holmes committed a crime and is getting her just deserts. But neither are her victimized investors naifs. Agreed, in a perfect utopian world no one would lie (or steal, rape, murder, etc.) But that is not the world in which we live. Yes, you should be free to walk around any part of any city anywhere in the world at any time of the night and not get mugged or robbed. But you're an idiot if you do that without taking precautions. Reality matters.

I hope people read this one - JK Rowling’s latest essay makes excellent points, directly & dutifully, as she continues to advocate for women, girls & gays. If you read anything today, please read this - “When it came to civil, gay and women’s rights, ordinary people who had little to no individual power organised at a grassroots level to challenge powerful institutions, from government downwards, on their entrenched prejudices, and campaigned to change harmful, discriminatory treatment. Twenty-first century trans activism is the very inverse of those movements. It is elitist to its core.” 🎯
