Out in @JACCJournals we use NIH RePORTER to show:
▫️ women were awarded only 20% of R01 grants in CV research from 2011-2020
▫️women are more likely to receive less funding $
▫️# of grants and funding $ increased among both men and women in CV research

Grateful to @khurramn1 & @ASPCardio leadership for the opportunity🙏🏻 Excited to contribute across @AJPCardio’s editorial and scientific initiatives.
📣 Introducing the AJPC Editorial & Prevention Fellowship — a new 12-month program from ASPC and the American Journal of Preventive Cardiology, offering hands-on experience across peer review, editorial strategy, special issue development, and more.
We're proud to welcome our inaugural fellow, @IzzaShahid_, MBBS, a postdoctoral fellow in preventive cardiology at @HoustonMethodi1. With more than 80 peer-reviewed publications and national recognition for her work in cardiovascular prevention and women's cardiovascular health, Izza is exactly the kind of rising leader this fellowship was built for.
"We are delighted to welcome Izza as our inaugural fellow," said Dr. Khurram Nasir, AJPC Editor-in-Chief (@khurramn1). "Her strong background in preventive cardiology research, scientific communication, and academic publishing makes her an excellent fit for this new initiative."
Congratulations, Izza! 🎉

Is low Lp(a) associated with risk of diabetes? This new study @AJPCardio suggests it does not, based on a SNP associated with very low Lp(a) levels.

SALAM! 🕊️🙋🏻♂️
I’m happy to share our latest study, “Cardiometabolic and ASCVD Risk Profiles in Arab Americans: Insights From the SALAM Registry,” published in JACC: Advances.
📄 jacc.org/doi/10.1016/j.jacad…
Arab Americans have often been grouped under “White” in U.S. health records, obscuring their cardiovascular health.
Using a validated Arab name algorithm, we identified 49,440 Arab American adults in the Houston Methodist CVD-LHS registry:
• 36.5% had Hyperlipidemia
• 28.5% had Hypertension
• 16.3% had Diabetes
• 15.2% had ASCVD.
This is just the beginning of our work on cardiovascular health in Arab Americans. More to come from the SALAM Registry!

2025 marked a pivotal year for the American Journal of Preventive Cardiology @AJPCardio, one defined by growth, impact, and a clearer mandate for actionable prevention.
As highlighted in this review by @khurramn1 and @IzzaShahid_, AJPC continues to expand its global reach, amplify high-quality science, and translate evidence into real-world clinical practice. With rising submissions, increasing engagement, and a stronger emphasis on implementation, the field is moving beyond knowledge generation to meaningful change in patient care.

We are pleased to publish the February issue of the @AJPCardio
sciencedirect.com/journal/am…
While several papers here carry forward work initiated last year, this issue reflects on practical reality, an intentional focus for us at the journal moving forward, reflected in the new papers.
Cardiovascular prevention management entered an era of lower thresholds, broader eligibility, and more intensive therapy. Yet implementation remains uneven and frequently constrained by cost, access, and therapeutic inertia. Its time to bring that in focus...
This direction is visible across the issue
1. Guideline refinement. #AnnMarieNavar and team examines the projected implications of the 2025 AHA/ACC blood pressure recommendations quantify how eligibility and treatment intensity may shift across populations, moving beyond recommendations with operational impact
2. Economic sustainability. As wide range of therapies for patients with diabetics become more common, affordability becomes central. @rohan_khera economic analyses and @MOSSIALOS editorial underscore the need to balance clinical benefit with long-term scalability
3. Subclinical imaging. @miguelcainzos23 shows emerging strategies around atherosclerosis imaging highlight its expanding role in outreach, risk communication, and treatment engagement, @MichaelJBlaha discussing how imaging can be integrated into prevention frameworks rather than used as a modifier alone.
4. Equity and representation. #DianeBrisson paired original research with @DrMarthaGulati @Nishant_ShahMD editorial commentary on sex representation in trials reinforce that generalizability should be central and non-negotiable
5. Expanding risk constructs. Contributions spanning cardiometabolic risk, pregnancy-related cardiovascular health, and environmental determinants reflect a broader understanding of prevention as multidimensional.
Beyond papers....we are thinking deeply of the future for our journal in its role beyond being a reflection of what's the latest in CV prevention science...
In this issue, @DrMichaelShapir @ASPCardio President’s message highlights the alignment between ASPC and AJPC for advancing prevention science while strengthening education and implementation. A society shapes practice, where our journal will shape the dialogue. When aligned deliberately, we both will accelerate responsible adoption.
@CarlosVergaraMD a truly rising superstar, details creation of AJPC Academy for structured approach to reviewer development & scholarly engagement. Sustained progress also depends on intellectual infrastructure to build the future talent pipelines
Taken together, this issue reflects a field transitioning from evidence accumulation toward delivery refinement & capacity building.
As the world of CV prevention science advances, the next phase will depend on how effectively we integrate these advances into workflows that are practical, equitable, and sustainable
Grateful to our authors, reviewers, and editorial team for making this possible.
Khurram
