The reason people say this is because one of the worst things that can happen to you as a creative is that you build an audience who wants you to draw stuff you dont actually enjoy drawing. The novelty of seeing like number go up wears off eventually.

The reality is most people who follow you like the way you draw a certain type of content. Once you reach a certain number of followers doing a certain type of content you'll notice posting anything different won't perform nearly as well.
