今回の海賊版騒動でたびたび名前が出るゲイブ・ニューウェルについて調べてみた。 この人はSteamを作ったValveの共同創業者で、海賊版について「合法的に入手する手段がない、あるいは正規版が不便だから海賊版が広がっているのであれば、提供する側にも問題がある」という考え方を持っている。 ならば正規版をきちんと、早く、便利に提供すれば、海賊版は相対的に減っていく。Steamは実際にその考え方で成功した例なので、「日本のコンテンツ業界も同じように正規流通を充実させるべきだ」という話らしい。 好むと好まざるとにかかわらず、これからそういう時代になっていくのかもしれない。
