Put everything I've learnt building my trading bot into one article.
What's worked, what's gone badly wrong, the fixes, and why I reckon every trader should try building one, even if it's just to see how emotional their own trading is.
One of the best performing strategies in my whole bot right now is one I built by taking a strategy that kept losing money and just flipping every signal it gave.
Sounds daft saying it out loud. It was going long when it should've been short and short when it should've been long, bleeding steadily for weeks. So instead of binning it I inverted the lot, every entry flipped the other way round.
It's top of my leader board now. 80-odd trades in, win rate around 75%, profit factor just under 3, and it's running live, not just sat in a backtest.
The catch, and there's always a catch, is the exact same flipped logic on the faster timeframes is still rubbish. The 5 minute and 15 minute versions of it still lose. So it's not that inversion is some magic money button, it's that this one edge only turns up on the 1 hour and nowhere else.
That's what keeps surprising me building this thing. Half the progress isn't clever new ideas, it's realising something you'd already written off was one small change away from actually working.
Ever had something click only once you did the opposite of what you set out to do?
GM all. Well that answers the big weekend question.
$BTC held the 80k line and then just kept going, pushed up to around 84.2k this morning, straight into the 82-84k zone that rejected it back at the start of the month. First time it's been up here since.
$ETH's tagged along, back around 2700, and $SOL's reclaimed 110. Dominance still sat at 58.85% though so it's a majors move, alts mostly watching on, apart from $NEAR which is up 23% off all the Zcash swap traffic.
A lot of the push came from the SEC clearing onchain trading of tokenised US stocks at the weekend, squeezed a load of shorts out.
Quiet week for data after the hike, mostly Fed speakers to sit through and the flash PMIs on Wednesday.
We're right at the level that decides it now. Break and hold, or reject again like last time?

$BTC monthly close is incredibly important on the macro
Bulls need a monthly close above the 13sma at 100k or it’s all bad
Monthly hidden bullish loading
But the loss of monthly bullish momentum crossing down out of the critical zone is concerning for the longevity of the cycle
You know what this usually means 😂

Crypo due for a push today. We are in 2000 territory on specs. It is where the cockroaches are. But at the same time Jamie Dimon said the cockroaches are ending he announces a $1.5 trillion fund that unwittingly stoked a huge spec wave.. We MUST focus on this before people really get hurt. TRIM

Totaly makes sense and i said the same thing when it happened. Seeing candles like that across the market simply can’t happen without a coordinated effort.
I’ve been though many market crashes and this crash on alts was more violent than the covid and ftx crashes.
Absolutely a coordinated pull of liquidity by market makers.
