Overhaul if the tax code is long overdue
The CEO of Canada’s sixth-largest bank wants Ottawa to throw out the entire tax code and write a new one within a year. Laurent Ferreira says the goal should be making Canada the “simplest, most efficient and most competitive tax jurisdiction of all developed countries.” 🧵👇 (1/8)

This! Post of the month right here 👏👏👏
(The 🍓🍓🍓🤣 at the end)… Karen earns $995 today. Before she sees a penny, roughly $533 disappears in marginal federal and provincial income tax. She fills her tank. Another $15.75 in fuel taxes and HST. She buys a pack of cigarettes. About $10 goes to taxes. A $20 bottle of wine to take the edge off? Another $3+ in taxes and levies. Dinner? $3.90 in HST. Every single month she quietly pays HST on her phone, internet and streaming services. She pays $6,000 a year in property tax just to continue living in a home she already bought with after-tax income. Part of every insurance premium is insurance premium tax. Hidden in almost everything she buys are corporate taxes, commercial property taxes, development charges, licensing fees and tariffs that businesses simply pass along in the price. She books a vacation. Airport Improvement Fees. Security charges. More taxes. She invests what’s left. If it grows, she pays capital gains tax. If it pays dividends, she pays dividend tax. Then one day Karen dies. Her family discovers there isn’t technically a “death tax” in Canada—but her estate is treated as though she sold almost everything the moment she died. Capital gains become taxable, final income tax is due, and in Ontario her estate pays probate fees before her family receives what’s left. Karen’s money was taxed when she earned it, taxed while she spent it, taxed while she invested it, taxed while she owned things, and taxed one final time when she died. But don’t worry. Karen refuses to buy American strawberries because she’s bravely protesting the tariffs the U.S. charges on their imports. After paying roughly $687 in taxes and government fees on a $995 workday, she’s finally taking a stand against someone else’s tax policy. 🇨🇦💪

The gaslighting needs to be studied. You’re desperate. Trying to justify the bailout given to the wealthiest in Canada. No one is buying your spin. This does nothing for affordability. Carney literally said this is because developers don’t want to sell at a loss. So you go to the “rescue” on our dime so they can be made whole. It’s literally a bailout. Let them hold those empty units. Let’s see how many can afford to stay afloat. You could have picked them up for significantly cheaper when they closed shop. Instead, you bail them out using the money from those who cannot afford them. Shame on you.

Well, Canada is officially in recession. That should increase Liberal support if I am understanding this country correctly.

Shannon, It’s pretty straight forward. The Government of Alberta is fighting to keep from compensating all of the Alberta small business people harmed by the illegal Jason Kenney lock down orders supported by the totalitarians in the NDP. We applied for certification of a class action. The government of Alberta opposed the motion because both the UCP government and the NDP support not compensating Alberta small business people harmed by illegal COVID lockdown orders. The government lost and was ordered to pay court costs. Hope that helps. While we are at it can you please explain to Albertans why the NDP hates small business people so much? Sincerely, Jeffrey R.W. Rath
Why did the Government of Alberta seemingly give separatist activist Jeff Rath $57k? Feels like a question that demands an answer. #ableg

Truth!
A bad coach tears people down. An average coach focuses only on results. A good coach teaches skills and systems. A great coach builds confidence and trust. An exceptional coach helps people believe in themselves at a higher level. And the best coaches impact lives long after the scoreboard stops mattering.

Turn the TV off for a week, read international news, and get back to me. Canada is not doing as well as you think it is.

Why I believe Alberta and Saskatchewan will separate to form their own country: The number of silent supporters of separation is bigger than the number who loudly support it. Over the years, many people have told me separation won't happen, that its a crazy idea, that they won't support it because its a waste of time BUT when I ask them how they'd vote in a referendum, they almost always say "yes" or they just give me a look saying they will or they just tell me there's no use thinking it because it won't happen but they never ever say they'd vote no. – at Melville, Saskatchewan

I have listened to almost every podcast of the Loonie Hour. Today's episode was easily one of the best. That Doomberg is one smart fella!

Canada is not well! Is SHOULD NOT matter what their sexual orientation is. This is an emergency @HMcPhersonNDP
Many Canadians, especially members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, are in Puerto Vallarta, where violence has quickly escalated. A shelter-in-place order is in effect. Please stay vigilant and consult the Government of Canada travel advisories for Mexico: travel.gc.ca/destinations/me…

Let me tell you how it’s possible: A drama teacher was elected 3 times. We spent billions on international gender programs. We refused to expand oil & gas to Europe & Asia We couldn't control spending, so we raised taxes. We enacted the War Times Measures Act, oops, I meant to say the rebranded name, the Emergencies Act, on innocent Canadians and used lawfare on them, despite it being ruled unlawful by the Courts. Our Prime Minister then divided our country. He thought it was a good idea to mass-import millions of foreigners from one part of the world. Crime skyrocketed. Healthcare crumbled. Housing costs & inflation spiralled out of control.  The brain drain continued, we lost some of the best.  And then we decided to then elect the drama teacher's advisor for his last 5 years. “Out of nowhere” 🤣🤣🤣 Liberal propaganda.

Love this!
Players don’t develop on the same timeline. Biological age shapes resilience, skill, and long-term success far more than calendar birth year. Time matters more than cutoffs. Let’s coach for potential, not just today’s size, writes Coach @JarnoKukila. hubs.la/Q03_hCc30

Maybe it is a reflection of the reality that Canada is not as good as it once was. There was a time when Canada delivered! Not anymore. Nowadays, 12M Canadians sit and watch their bank account to see if and when the gov will send them $ so they can buy food.

During my keynote in Regina this week, the final question in the Q&A addressed Alberta’s recurring debate about leaving Canada—an issue I know well, as someone from Quebec, having seen firsthand the long-term consequences of separatism on families, communities, and economies. My response was straightforward. The decision belongs to Albertans alone. No one else should presume to decide for them. I also stated clearly that Canada is undeniably stronger with Alberta than without it. That said, if Alberta chooses to put the fundamental question to its citizens, it should do so decisively, respect the outcome, and move forward. Quebec paid a significant price for allowing the issue to linger for decades—capital flight, population loss, and deep social fractures followed. Uncertainty is costly. Whatever path is chosen, prolonged ambiguity is the worst outcome.

Entrepreneurs, that dont take a single CENT from Canadian taxpayers but remit taxes back to the country. This is what the market wants. Not garbage CBC panelists.

Calling frustrated Canadians “traitors” while blocking the very projects that hold this country together is pure hypocrisy #cdnpoli #bcpoli
There is an old word to describe going to a foreign power and asking for their assistance in breaking up a sovereign country — it’s treason. Canadians are standing together in defence of this beautiful land. 🇨🇦

I dunno but Mark Carney cosplaying as the leader of the free world without an army to back it up is like going into a super-max prison and on your first day proclaiming you're in charge.
