Interesting to see how much more straightforward Justice Gorsuch's writing style has become.

Unnecessary detail of any kind tires the reader, who wonders if they need to remember it, and distracts them from relevant detail. Sure, use dates where jurisdictionally relevant but not otherwise. You don't see a lot of "0n [date]," in John Roberts & Elena Kagan opinions.

A tight, confident, controlled intro paragraph in this motion to transfer venue from Doug Lumish of @lathamwatkins
Everyone has a bad fact or two. The key is to subordinate it to the rest of the sentence like it's no big deal, as he does here.

Deceptively simple but all-too-rare paragraph structure in this Catherine Stetson @HoganLovells motion for PI (also signed by current SG Elizabeth Prelogar!)
Three quick points in parallel form in the topic sentence. Then 3 expanded treatments track it in lockstep.

This essay might be useful for ppl who are new to nondelegation debates. We try to offer an evenhanded primer on what nondel doctrine is and why it has such huge stakes. Then we describe historical research showing that the doctrine didn’t exist in 1789. theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv…

Listening to a CLE with former Assistant to the Solicitor General Ginger Anders, who is talking about OSG's rep for candor.
Paraphrasing: You put the bad stuff in a sentence that begins "to be sure." But you put the REALLY BAD stuff in a FOOTNOTE that starts "to be sure."
