If there was a Mount Rushmore of ball writers, Ross Newhan would be on it. He was a giant in the biz, a Hall-of-Famer who spent much of his 43-year career covering @MLB for the LA Times. He was a mentor to myself and so many others, a friend to all. Ross died today at 89. RIP💔

"GM" is just short-hand (for Tweets) for the No. 1 baseball operations job. Some orgs call that the POBO and some call it the GM, but it's the same job. Ultimately, the title has more to do with the experience and salary of the person they hire, but not the job description.

Did he mention a POBO? They’re still one of the few organizations without one.

John Mozeliak said that the Angels will be hiring a full-time GM for the 2027 season. It won't be him. He said that process is still in its early stages. They haven't interviewed anyone yet. Mozeliak said the new manager would be hired after the GM.

The Angels will also be looking for a new coaching staff.

OFFICIAL: The Angels announced that the Club has declined the option in Kurt Suzuki’s contract and, in coordination with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, will search for a new manager and coaching staff for the 2027 season.

The Angels announced that the Club has declined the option in Kurt Suzuki’s contract and, in coordination with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, will search for a new manager and coaching staff for the 2027 season.

“As we look toward 2027 and beyond, I have had thoughtful conversations internally and with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment’s leadership about the future of Angels Baseball and the direction of our organization. Those conversations have shaped the decision to seek a new manager and coaching staff for the 2027 season. Kurt has earned tremendous respect in our clubhouse, and I’ve seen firsthand how much he cares about our players. I do not believe our record this year was a true reflection of his abilities as a manager. I’m pleased we were able to offer Kurt a role to stay on as a special assistant, where his knowledge of our players and his perspective would continue to be valuable to the organization. I would also like to thank the entire coaching staff for their professionalism and hard work throughout a very difficult season. We value their expertise and have offered some members of the staff positions within the organization.” John Mozeliak (Baseball Operations Consultant)

Mozeliak said he has a meeting later today with Kevin Demoff of KSE. Although he wouldn’t speculate how quickly that would lead to these management decisions, he said Demoff understands the urgency of this time in the baseball calendar.

Is KSE not allowed to give guidance until the sale becomes official? The team feels in limbo right now. Not really fair to Kurt either. Broadcasters seemed to be pitching to keep their jobs yesterday. Literally no one seems to know what's going to happen.

Also worth noting, this is the pitch that Moore has struggled with in most of his time in the big leagues. A high fastball.

Christian Moore has had huge hits two nights in a row. His 3-run HR with 2 outs in the 6th tonight gave the Angels a 5-0 lead. Last night he hit a 2-run double to give the Angels a lead.

Angels’ Christian Moore knows what he needs to do to stay in the majors

After hitting .198 in his first stints in the majors, Moore went down to Triple-A and was recalled Saturday to get an everyday opportunity at second base.
