Takeaway from the fall of the Third Reich.
Public Complicity: The narrative emphasizes how easily a modern democracy surrendered its freedoms without significant outcry from ordinary citizens.
These fascists built concentration camps for immigrants and sent brown people to El Salvador to get tortured and raped

💔 IN MEMORY OF JESSE ADAMS — A TRUE HERO FOR ANIMALS 💔
It is with enormous sadness that we have learned of the tragic death of Jesse Adams, founder of RainCoast Dog Rescue Society in Canada, who lost his life while carrying out an animal rescue mission in one of the most dangerous areas of Ukraine.
Jesse dedicated his life to saving animals, even when it meant putting his own life at risk.
We first came to know Jesse in 2021, when Afghanistan fell to the Taliban. Jesse and RainCoast were among the extraordinary organisations that came together to assist KSAR with the evacuation of 285 cats and dogs, helping many find loving forever homes.
Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Jesse travelled to the border to help fleeing families and their pets, providing veterinary care, supplies and assistance getting animals to safety.
He returned repeatedly, undertaking increasingly dangerous missions.
Most recently, Jesse worked alongside Animal Rescue Kharkiv, rescuing hundreds of animals from devastated frontline communities under constant threat from drones, missiles and artillery.
These were extraordinary acts of compassion and courage in the face of unimaginable danger.
Jesse knew the risks. He knew every mission could be his last. Yet he continued because he believed animals caught in conflict deserved protection just as much as those living in peace.
Those of us working in animal rescue in conflict zones understand and accept these risks. But few possess the courage to repeatedly travel towards danger when everyone else is trying to escape it.
Jesse was one of those very special people.
His death is a devastating loss to his family, friends, RainCoast and the international animal rescue community.
Our hearts go out to everyone who knew and loved him, particularly the Ukrainian rescuers who worked alongside him.
His legacy lives on in every animal he saved and every rescuer he inspired.
Rest in peace, Jesse. The world has lost an extraordinary human being, and the animals have lost a true champion. 🐾💔
With love and deepest respect,
Louise and everyone at War Paws

Last month, I sought assurances from our nation's top military and civilian leaders at the Pentagon that troops will not be used to interfere in our midterm elections—and that any order to do so would be illegal. The law is clear: our military has no business interfering in our elections, policing polling places, or handling ballots or voting machines.
Now, @SenMarkKelly and I are seeking answers about the Pentagon's vaguely defined National Guard "reaction forces," created to respond to "civil disturbances." We want to make absolutely sure these forces will not be used to interfere with our elections in any way.

Trump admitted he blocked energy funding to punish blue states he lost in 2024, including $586 million for Illinois.
Courts ruled it illegal. He's still blocking the money.
Bipartisan permitting reform won't work if Trump ignores the law. He must reinstate the grants first.

Trump just absolutely proved that Iran never had nuclear weapons.
He said that if Netanyahu doesn't win, he will not continue fighting Iran.
WHAT? But they have nuclear weapons!!! Why wouldn't Trump continue fighting them on his own??
Because there are no nuclear weapons.
It was all a ruse. We suffered at the pump and in stores. 21 soldiers died. 800 wounded. Just to distract from Epstein, and help Trump and oil companies make billions.
No matter how much you despise Trump and the GOP, it's not enough.
Vote the mf's out. Every. Single. One.

Green: “[Blackburn's] proposed over 500 pieces of legislation. Seven of them have passed and five of them were renaming post offices. That's what she's done for Tennesseans in her time in office. Her signature piece of legislation has led to the opioid epidemic that has caused 40,000 Tennesseans to lose their lives over the last 10 years. She's bought and paid for and she doesn't think she has to answer the questions of podcasters or the press or the people most importantly.”
Tennessee governor candidate Jerri Green just CALLED OUT Marsha Blackburn for avoiding a debate.
“This is a job interview and everybody is seeing her for the COWARD that she is.”
“Show a little backbone if she has one left and stop running into elevators, stop running from press and the airports.”
Green is calling for Blackburn to face voters and defend her record.

Three down. Three left.
The people have spoken. We have had enough of the chaos, the hatred, the corruption, and the authoritarian idiots who think the world belongs to them.
Orbán, Bolsonaro and Vučić have all been rejected by voters.
Today, Netanyahu could be next. And Trump looks increasingly likely to earn his own big red cross in the midterms.
That leaves Putin.
The rest of us must make sure Moscow gets its red cross too, by giving Ukraine everything it needs to defeat Russia’s imperial ambitions.
The age of «strongmen» is looking a little less strong. And that is a beautiful thing.
Remember when you could wake up in the morning without wondering which country was being threatened, which ally had been insulted, or which international crisis had been manufactured overnight by a man with an oversized ego?
When politics was often boring, diplomacy happened behind closed doors, and world leaders generally tried to solve problems instead of creating three new ones before breakfast?
It wasn’t a perfect world. Far from it. But there was a certain peace in not having to listen to angry old men demanding the world’s attention every single day.
Imagine getting that peace back. Imagine a world where the morning news is about progress, discoveries and possibilities, rather than the latest threats, lies and tantrums.
We deserve that world again.

We need to talk for a minute, because things could fall apart next week.
I know a lot of Dems all around the country are half or higher intoxicated with the how things will be better when we win back control of the Senate and the House on Nov 3, but I also know we were stumbling drunk on our own endorphins on what should have been the eve of the election of Hillary Clinton.
A little bit of psychological and practical prep now can do a lot to reduce the initial shock and the freeze response on Nov 4th this year, if things go badly. If we need to shift into Long-Term Resistance mode, instead of Victory mode, we can’t afford a long lag while we dwell and wallow.
So, just a handful of things we can do:
• Visualize and absorb the potential negative outcome. Taking a little time to think about how you will be running on a mix of grief, anger, and autopilot for a while, which will help you avoid being thrown off when they hijack your brain.
• Flip the switch in your head. As soon as (and every time) you switch from thinking “Oh my god, we’re doomed; all is lost” or “the world is broken; America is unsavable” or so on, and instead think “OK, what’s next?” or “What can I do to soften the damage,” you switch from the emotional overload of the amygdala and into the frontal cortex. That halts the flood of systemic stress chemicals and opens the tap on neurotransmitters that promote stability, focus, and logical processing.
• Change your framework from victim “how long until I/we can heal from this disaster” and instead anchor around the idea of anti-fragility. That’s the powerful quality of things that are actually made stronger and more resilient by stress or overload. Think of ways we already rock at that, like building muscle by constant overload and building immunity through exposure to invaders and vaccines.
• Put together a list of small tasks and processes so you can stay in motion even when you are running in a dampened state. Maybe that means meeting and sending out notes of support with people in your network to be supportive of each other. Maybe that is putting a timeline together so you are already thinking about milestones to the next election and small wins you could achieve to get you on the way. Whatever fits with your skillset and is likely to motivate you a little bit. Make them small at first—easy to do even if you are in a crummy mood or tired or full of lame excuses not to do it. Actions of any size are huge in terms of resilience and recovery.
I know from years of teaching at all grade levels that the vast majority of you will not take this to heart any more than reminders not to start your term paper the week before it is due, but for those that this does help—each one means one more anchor that others can look to and rally around if things veer toward dystopia.
