If you are a game critic (and not a documentary maker) focussing on the player's experience of a game is where your real value lies. It's good for a general audience and many devs will also find it useful and interesting. Speculation about why certain things did or didn't happen during the dev process is *worthless* in the absence of first-hand accounts. It is also a fast track to alienating the developer audience - it's a tell that you are out of your depth. "They did this thing so therefore they could have just done this other thing" - this is a sign that you are embarrassing yourself. Stop, go back.
