it's not that other people don't have problems, it's that they didn't use them as excuses to give up. if you can't understand this you'll never achieve anything.

You can hate on military movies or Pratt all you want but I actually think we need more movies like this. Specifically, the live action PG and PG-13 movie. Everything now is edgy and R and for adults or a cartoon. If Karate Kid came out today you’d have a bunch of A24 disciples on Twitter talking about how bad it looks. This isn’t for you. We need more live action movies that kids and their parents can watch together. We’ve lost the Sandlots and Mighty Ducks and Mrs Doubtfires. I hope, at the very least, this does well enough to green light more family friendly movies.

Decentralized epistemic infrastructure.
Its anti-fragile nature favors creators with **more** experience. Creates a top-down hierarchy based on experience with room for new creators to naturally break through. Everyone involved benefits.

Seth Rogen says Steven Spielberg never looked at him the same after catching him smoking weed. "I was at a party, a big party. I think it was Jeffrey Katzenberg's night-before party, so it's a big party with a lot of famous people at it." Then things got awkward. "I was outside, and there was someone else I knew, and we started smoking weed. I was smoking a joint, and Steven Spielberg came up to me as I had this joint in my hand. I could just tell he did not like it. It was a very judgmental moment." He had a split-second decision to make. "Do I fucking try to hide it? Do I just keep smoking it? Then I was just like, 'I think I'm just gonna have to take ownership over this and keep smoking this right in front of Steven Spielberg.'" It left a lasting impression. "I've run into him a few times, and he always seems a little disappointed in me."

Cassian Elwes is a legend in indie film production and financing. Most people have no idea the Herculean effort that that has gone into getting money for indie films. If you ever have the fortune to hear any of @cassianelwes’ accounts of getting financing for this film and others over the past decades, listen to every word.
Makes me think of so much but particularly that crazy fifth night ( knowing I only had 5 days to raise the money ) I pulled it off. I’d been chasing the movie for 10 years but I finally got the chance and I took it. And that’s what I get from this speech. Keep believing in yourself.

I fuck with people who are authentic. they're usually a little "odd" and "weird" because they are most likely doing some totally original stuff

Guy led a strike that, let’s be honest, tanked the industry in a way that far outweighs the protections that came from it and now gets paid a MILLION dollars a year to lead a union that has more members than ever out of work and losing health insurance. Fascinating stuff.
