“I really do care about this” So much so that I’ll ignore all available evidence that supports puberty blockers for young trans people, will exclusively listen to anti-trans lobbyists, and actively ignoring the voices of trans people, their families and healthcare experts.
Streeting delivers a message to trans young people - 'I know it won't feel like it based on the decisions I'm taking today, but I really do care about this' The health secretary announced he's putting an 'indefinite' ban on puberty blockers for under-18s

i just think anyone involved in this project should be completely and utterly ashamed of themselves, including people who may or may not be fixtures of important podcast empires

It can't be one rule for one and one rule for another. The farmers who drove tractors at the police need to be arrested and charged. The just oil protesters got prison sentences for less. Or this will literally be two-tier policing.

Psa: when people say "we have to get rid of pronouns" they just mean driving trans people out of public life. You aren't going to own them by pointing out that 'We' is a pronoun

I think what I'm least looking forward to from a UK perspective is liberal talking heads congratulating themselves that "at least we're not heading that way over here" when any clear-eyed analysis of the last election result will demonstrate that's *exactly* the path we are on.

I’m not aware if Streeting’s met with any parent of a trans child who’s died by suicide. So, today I’m going to write to ask if he’ll meet with me. Even though both a yes and a no answer will likely make me ill. NHS neglect harmed Alice. A coroner ruled Alice’s death preventable.
BREAKING: The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting, has this week met with the Darlington nurses and said he is committed to the belief that sex is biological being reflected in the day-to-day running of the NHS under his watch. The nurses, who are being supported by the Christian Legal Centre, also handed in a CitizenGo petition signed by 48,000 people to Number 10 Downing Street calling for the government to do whatever is necessary to ensure women have access to single-sex changing rooms and toilets. The meeting followed a statement Mr Streeting made in the lead up to the General Election in June when he said on X/Twitter that he was ‘horrified’ by their case and wanted to meet. Mr Streeting gave the response after the nurses launched legal action against County Durham and Darlington NHS Trust over being forced to share a changing room with a man identifying as a woman. Darlington nurse, and President of the DNU, Bethany Hutchison, said: “We were nervous going into the meeting, but he put us at ease, gave us time and listened, which was encouraging. We now, however, need to see firm action from Wes and a clear consensus from the government and the NHS on these issues. “Sadly, we continue to be treated appallingly by the Trust. The policy they have in place is putting women at risk and is open to abuse and should be changed urgently. We have been shocked, however, to find that the ‘rights’ of a man identifying as a woman continue to be supported and promoted, while ours as women have been ignored and even pushed out. “We are not doing this just for nurses. We are doing this for women across the country, for example those who are working in the police force, but also for sisters, daughters and mothers everywhere.” Andrea Williams, @A_Minichiello chief executive of the Christian Legal Centre, said: “A clear policy statement is required which reflects biological reality and protects women from this kind of upset and harm at work." This whimsy is just nauseating in the context of how the @ukhomeoffice treats actual flesh and blood human beings.

Even as a politics lecturer in a Middle East department, I am lost. Israel has a right to self defence, but Lebanon does not? Israelis have the right to be safe, but Palestinians do not? Iran can’t launch missiles into civilian areas, but Israel can? None of this is coherent.

Incredible to see the news that climate change protestors have been sentenced to years in prison on the same morning where entire towns are disappearing or underwater from floods, a kind of event that’s becoming more and more normal
