Excited to share that I have been promoted to associate professor @UCSCscience with tenure. Am grateful for all of the members of @ward_lab past and present, all of my wonderful colleagues, mentors, and collaborators! Looking forward to the next chapter and lots of great science!
Wonderful to get @Iam_Londen 's thesis work out! This thesis work has gone through strikes, COVID, wildfires, floods. Story has evolved so much since our initial @biorxivpreprint I even did experiments on it myself!
NHR-23 activity is necessary for C. elegans developmental progression and apical extracellular matrix structure and function

Super excited to share our new preprint where we joined forces with the @partchlab @ward_lab @ClaireBENARD7 @DiegoGolombek labs to study the role of circadian clock homologs genes lin-42/PER and kin-20/CK1e in C. elegans! 🌓🕘biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Again, @wyomingwormboy is the best host. Went for an amazing ski today. It had been years and was so good to get out and hit the local trails!

Getting the full Laramie experience. Tasty cocktails at the vegetarian cafe the first night, bison steaks at this joint the next night! @wyomingwormboy is the best host!

Cool! An all star podcast with Jane Hubbard, Marty Chalfie & Carol Greider (GSA President & 2 Nobel laureates) explaining why genetics is so powerful and inspiring 🔥
Introducing our new audio series, SNPets, created by GSA President E. Jane Hubbard! Read her blog post to learn how you can discover interesting and inspiring perspectives from bright minds in our field—even when you've only got 5 minutes to spare. bit.ly/3HcQLcb

ALT "One of the things that genetics does the biochemistry does not, for example, is it lets the organism tell you what is important. By finding mutations that cause a phenotype, you're having the organism's biology tell you, ' This is something that is critical. This is something that is needed.' –Martin Chalfie for SNPets, GSA
Ditto thanks @NSF for such an energizing, invigorating meeting!
A huge thank you to the NSF MCB directorate and all their colleagues for bringing together their CAREER awardees at the 2022 MCB Confab! I met so many new people and learned so much new science! Looking forward to doing it again in 3 years! @NSF
Proud of two transfer students in my lab (Noorain and Javier) who got spotlighted @ucsc as part of National Transfer Week. They're exceptional, as are the other transfer students in the lab! news.ucsc.edu/2022/10/spotli…
Wish that @RunRocknRoll would be more thoughtful with their routes. They blocked a street near us leading to heavy traffic on our street and our neighbor's dog got hit by a truck. Unacceptable and heartbreaking.
Wonderful to see this out! Another great collaboration with the Shakes lab!
Excited that the last of my undergrad work is finally published! Thanks to @Jordan_D_Ward and others who were involved in this project (1/2)

The stunning piece now in Sinsheimer Labs @ucsc; was amazing to see it painted
This is the original acrylic on wood painting that I did for the mural at UC Santa Cruz. I now have canvas and archival paper prints available. Thank you so much for all your support of my work!!

📢Announcement for researchers, especially those at PUIs and/or working with undergrads: Have you heard about @Micropub7n???
They publish *peer-reviewed* & *Pubmed-indexed* SINGLE-FIGURE papers (& some are even accepted in <24 hours! as evidenced👇) 1/
OK that's just ridiculous. Ridiculously awesome that is. Sent a cute little finding by @ashishkmaurya6 to @Micropub7n yesterday afternoon. Got accepted this evening. How great is that? So many of these micro results published there have been so useful and they are on PubMed too.
Delighted that we got a Notice of Award for an R21 grant in collaboration with the Chisholm lab. We're going to CRISPR tag 100 C. elegans apical ECM factors and perform super res microscopy to gain insight into aECM structure and biogenesis. (1)
Finally, we submitted a follow-up to our NHR-23 germline paper. We performed RNA-seq following NHR-23, SPE-44, and NHR-23+SPE-44 depletion biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… (1)
There seem to be a lot of phosphatases and kinases regulated by NHR-23. NHR-23 also might play a role in regulating Major Sperm Protein polymerization kinetics (3).
We have a great team of students this summer to do this work as part of a @NSF CAREER award (4).
