Completely wrong fix - being an MP needs to be very well paid - in fact it should guarantee an excellent standard of living for the rest of their life - however once not elected they should be completely banned from all employment -they should have to sit on their bums and garden

I want to talk about Patrick Collison.
Let’s start with a simple acknowledgment: he is one of the most impressive philanthropists right now:
- When Covid hit, he and Tyler Cowen launched Fast Grants and got money to scientists within days.
- He helped launch the Arc Institute, so biologists could do science instead of drowning in paperwork for grants.
- And Stripe, under Collison’s leadership, built Frontier: a super ambitious pledge to guarantee a market for carbon removal tech.
This is all really awesome! Few billionaires have thought harder about how to do a lot of good with their money.
But now we have to talk about what the hell Patrick Collison is doing in California.
He has given $15 million to ‘Building a Better California’, one of the most cynical political campaigns I’ve seen in a long time. It's the main vehicle fighting Prop 40: a one-time 5% tax on the state's ~200 billionaires (to make up for federal cuts to healthcare for low-income Californians).
And look at how this group does it:
- It’s funding an extremely aggressive "No" campaign (opponents are outspending supporters roughly six to one).
- It also put two decoy measures on the same ballot. Prop 41 *seems* to be about good governance. Prop 42 is sold as ‘protecting your retirement savings’. But both contain a clause: if either gets more votes than the billionaire tax, the tax is cancelled.
- Meanwhile, the retirement story is total nonsense. Prop 40 already exempts pensions. CalMatters calls the deluge of ads misleading and the SF Chronicle calls Prop 41 a ‘cynical poison pill’.
- The sad reality is that all this misinformation is working though. Polls show small majorities backing the billionaire tax and the measures designed to kill it. You can vote yes on all three and cancel out your own vote. Most people don’t realize this.
Through all of it, Collison HASN'T SAID A WORD about why he's funding this slimy campaign.
This is a public intellectual who writes thoughtfully about progress. If he believes Prop 40 is bad policy, he should do the honorable thing and make the case! And tell us what he'd rather do about extreme concentrations of wealth and power, or explain why he thinks they aren't a problem for our democracy and civilization.
Instead we get silence + $15 million for a campaign built on misinformation and shady political tactics.
@patrickc, what are you doing?
The actual Industrial Revolution initially produced British GDP growth of roughly 1–2% a year. The postwar boom managed ~5% globally under extraordinary reconstruction/catch-up conditions. But apparently AI + some robots gets the entire world to >10% by 2035. Sure.
Here are some vibe predictions of what I expect to happen in AI.
Within 6 months: computer use big moment, office workers start adopting agentic AI in masse
Within 12 months: we learn of communities consistent of thousands of autonomous agents interacting through the internet
By end of 2027: AI revenues somewhere between $0.5-1 trillion
By mid 2028: all millennium problems solved, AI is being used for all STEM work as much as today in math, breakthrough scientific advances in other domains
By end of decade: robots aplenty, they work with precision, they are in the tens of millions and we are ramping up capacity to build more, fast. Job displacement is huge, AI is a huge political topic
By 2035: AI reaches cognitive parity with humans in all domains, pro AI rights movements are picking up, economy is moving faster than >10%/year growth
By 2040: there are >10x more general purpose robots than humans, economic growth is >30% year (10x faster than today)
Evolutionary Generative Art (LLM driven p5.js sketches)
@sama @DarioAmodei @romainhuet @OpenAIDevs @alexalbert__ need tokens poor! Bigger models make better art haha
#GenerativeArt #CreativeCoding
Breed generative art. Founders are prompts or images; seed/crossover/mutation grow them into p5.js sketches with full lineage. The model renders and looks at its own output before it finishes. Django + React Flow + a Rust agent + headless-Chrome p5

Have you decided which?
"choose" - u didn't choose shit fucking weirdo...

china must win.

Imagine AWS announcing in 2017 that EC2 instances would run invisibly slower if it detected you were building a competing cloud.
Anthropic just shipped exactly that for Fable 5 and called it a safeguard.
Anthropic says Fable 5 has invisible safeguards that use prompt modification, steering vectors, or PEFT to limit its effectiveness for frontier LLM development (@maba_xr / The Decoder)

okay, after a few hours of playing around with Fable i've determined it to be borderline unusable. wtf @AnthropicAI
every other request is getting rerouted to Opus. requests with NOTHING AT ALL to do with bio or cybersec are STILL getting flagged and rerouted. like 50-60%.
who the hell let this go live. this is atrocious. i understand the safeguards but you basically didn't even release a model, you released a braindead, nerfed model that can't even handle the simplest request without being told to nuke itself and use a different model. what are we even doing?
just don't even release it next time smh

For my friends who are still using UV and might be a little weary about recent compromises to PyPi packages, stick this in your pyproject.toml.
You can let all of those pip users find and report the compromises...
