Powell just confirmed that yes, the staff had forecast a recession, and no, they're not forecasting one any more. It has taken a year and a half, but finally the inevitable recession is recognized as not so inevitable and not so recessionary.

I do not resent the people who got a huge break today. Good for them! I do resent the lazy policy making that didn’t pair this debt forgiveness with a serious plan to FIX THE SYSTEM going forward…

Whatever people think about mandating automatic 401k enrollment, they should understand that Secure Act 2.0 doesn't mandate very much of it.

This morning, I was asked by a young scholar, "How do write for impact?" I shared a process that I've developed over time that is pretty simple, but it's been effective for me. 🧵⬇️⬇️⬇️

We need N95 masks. We need Covid tests. Both should be free and accessible to all Americans.

This year really underscored for me why it’s important for economics to have more women and moms… When the pandemic started, economists everywhere were like “We need to support businesses!” And all the mom economists were like “Yes, and also kids and working parents!”….

It's consistently shocking how much of what economists are finally learning about labor markets was analyzed by sociologists back in the mid-20th century. This is from Kalleberg, Wallace, and Althauser (1981)! Reads almost exactly like @LarryMishel, @joshbivens_DC, etc. today.

Future historians — if there are any future historians, that is, if civilization doesn't collapse — will be astonished that we let the planet burn for the sake of an industry that employs less than 3 percent of workers even in West Virginia

The idea that the United States simply isn't rich enough to have a better safety net is absolutely ludicrous. Real GDP today is roughly 20 times what it was when we passed Social Security, its about 5 times what it was when we passed Medicare.

The most meaningful way to honor those we lost is to live with honor. Choosing compassion over callousness and dignity in the face of disdain. Upholding your principles when others compromise theirs. Being grateful for precious time that too many were denied. #September11

30 years ago Jimmy Carter had solar panels installed at the WH and he said: "In the year 2000 this solar water heater behind me, which is being dedicated today, will still be here supplying cheap, efficient energy…" When Reagan became president he had the solar panels removed.
