The public is thereby deceived and those fuddy-duddy empire obsessed donors who still foolishly believe in our right to house them, calmed.
And thus the star attractions of their so called British museum continues their lifeless existence in situ.

Janet Suzman, Chair of BCRPM reflects: "It may not be Cullinan's fault. He was hired, I'd guess, because he's an efficient guy and imaginative, but who tows the old line. That line is : 'they're here so we keep them, and we pretend they were honestly come by'.

#Syria: yesterday, the Basilica of Deir Semaan (St Simeon) saw its first pilgrimage in 15 years.
The event was held on the occasion of St Simeon the Stylite's feast day, according to the Christian calendar.
The column of St Simeon was restored last month in the Basilica:

#Syria: Qalaat Semaan (St. Simeon) is a majestic Byzantine site dating back to the 5th century, located in the NW. #Aleppo countryside.
The site features a large Church, built with monumental masonry and imposing arches, as well as a monastery.
According to the tradition, Simeon - an ascetic monk - lived atop a pillar for decades, earning him the name "Stylite" (from the Greek stylos, meaning pillar).
St. Simeon is part of UNESCO World Heritage.
The site was bombed multiple times during the war and sustained severe damage with a monumental arch & the main column destroyed.
It was also struck by a Russian airstrike on 12th May 2016:

The current goal is to consolidate the structures, with the aim of reopening the site to tourists.
