FRAUD ALERT
We’re warning the public about an active scam where fraudsters are posing as telecom providers like Rogers, Bell, and Telus, offering “exclusive deals” and new phones. Victims are being asked for banking or credit card information and may end up responsible for fraudulent phone contracts.
If you receive one of these calls, hang up and verify the offer directly with the company using a trusted phone number or website.
Do not provide personal, banking, or credit card information to unsolicited callers.
If you have been targeted or have information, please report it to EPS using our non-emergency line 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile device within city limits or by submitting a report online at edmontonpolice.ca.
It may not really be your phone company calling you. Just because a caller has some info on you does not mean they are who you think they are. Don't give info. Hang up. Look up number on your bill and call that instead to verify globalnews.ca/video/12035300…

🚨 Bank scam alert.
We are warning the public about an increase in bank impersonation scams & encouraging Calgarians to exercise caution.
Scammers are posing as banks & credit card companies, claiming your card has been compromised & offering to send a courier to collect it. They rely on fear & urgency to pressure victims into acting without verifying the situation.
Scammers create a false sense of urgency by claiming that:
🚨 Fraudulent transactions are happening right now.
🚨 Your accounts are at immediate risk.
🚨 You must act immediately to avoid financial losses.
🚨 A courier is already on the way to collect your card.
✅ Remember:
💳 Banks and credit card companies will never send the police or couriers to collect your debit or credit card.
💳 Never provide your PIN, passwords, or one-time security codes to anyone.
💳 Never hand over your bank cards to anyone.
💳 If you're concerned, hang up & contact your financial institution using a trusted phone number.
If someone pressures you to act immediately, take a moment to confirm the information before responding. A few extra minutes could protect you from becoming a victim of fraud.

AI isn't creating a new generation of scammers. It's creating a new generation of believable scams. The psychology hasn't changed. Urgency. Fear. Authority. Curiosity. But the production quality has definitely improved. You can't spot a scam as easily anymore. Talk to family!

Before leaving for work today, I took some time to check our property for Parker. It took only two minutes to check our bins, shed, under the deck & in the kids' toys. Please take the time to look. No matter how unlikely a spot you think it is, if a small child could fit, check.
Been scammed? Be careful who offers to “recover” your money. Recovery scammers target victims by promising they can get your funds back…for a fee. Legitimate agencies don’t guarantee recovery or ask for upfront payment. Don’t get scammed twice. They will pretend to be police.
My son’s car got a flat tire on a major Alberta highway. After events of the last year around Edmonton it just makes me so nervous. Luckily he was able to pull safely and completely off the road onto a side road. But I won’t feel better until that spare is on. #stayalert
