Obama tonight on his Cheesecake Factory line: "They mobilized a whole of government response to that joke. Not to inflation, but to that joke. The White House even called the Secretary of the Treasury. This is the man who is in charge of the economy. The person who's supposed to be figuring out how to make your life more affordable. The guy who's supposed to be figuring out how to lower inflation. And reduce interest rates. They told him he should hold a press conference in front of the Cheesecake Factory."

I advise Democrats to commit to the following political strategy: Do nothing. Their greatest political advertisement is getting free 24/7 coverage, and his name is Donald Trump. The key will be to sit still and let the man continue to self-destruct.

🇺🇦🇷🇺 A UKRAINIAN SOLDIER SPENT 15 DAYS TRAPPED WITH THE ENEMY. THEY ESCAPED TOGETHER. For 15 days, a Ukrainian soldier lived in an underground shelter with an armed Russian who had threatened to kill him. By the time they emerged, they had shared water, played chess with pieces made from mud, and made an unlikely agreement that saved them both. Vadym Letunov, a 34-year-old infantryman from Odesa known by the callsign “Cartman,” was serving with Ukraine’s 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade when Russian bombardment destroyed his position. An explosion buried him beneath earth and fallen trees. Nearby, a young Ukrainian soldier on his first combat mission was gravely wounded. He told Vadym he could no longer feel his legs. Vadym watched him die. Injured, disoriented and unable to contact his unit, Vadym eventually found an underground shelter. He entered, hoping to rest, only to discover a Russian soldier pointing a rifle at him. The Russian searched him, interrogated him and threatened to shoot him. Then he pointed to a wooden cross he had made, bearing the words “Save and Protect.” “Calm down. I’m not going to kill you. See? I have a cross.” Vadym had little choice but to stay. What followed was an extraordinary 15 days of fear, hunger and uneasy coexistence. The Russian gave him water, socks and scraps of fabric for his injured feet. They spoke about their lives and the war. At one point, they began playing chess using pieces they fashioned from clay and dirt. But Vadym’s condition was deteriorating. His feet were badly damaged, and one toe had turned black. The pain and exhaustion became so unbearable that he once asked the Russian to kill him. Then fog rolled across the battlefield. Hearing a drone overhead, Vadym recognized it as Ukrainian. He rushed outside carrying an improvised sign identifying himself, dropped to his knees and shouted toward the aircraft. “Cartman! It’s me!” The drone dropped a radio. For the first time in more than two weeks, Vadym could speak to his comrades. He explained that a Russian soldier was sheltering with him and wanted to surrender. The Russian immediately had one request. “Order some food.” So they did. Ukrainian forces eventually arranged an evacuation. Even as they approached the vehicle, Vadym feared the Russian might change his mind and shoot him. But the Russian climbed aboard. “You promised me they’d feed me and wouldn’t beat me,” he explained. Vadym emerged barefoot, barely able to walk. His first request to the Ukrainian soldiers who rescued them was simple: do not hurt the prisoner. Yet surviving brought little relief from the memory of the young Ukrainian who had died beside him. Vadym had lost a comrade he could not save. He had also brought back a Russian prisoner who might one day be exchanged for a Ukrainian held in captivity. For 15 days, two soldiers from opposing armies had shared a shelter, never knowing whether they would survive the next hour. In the end, they walked out together. And Vadym made sure the man who had once held him at gunpoint was treated humanely.

Terrifying footage of settler terrorists attacking and threatening to kill international activists and journalists @the_andrey_x and @infinite_jaz
🚨 TODAY: Settler-terrorists attacked Andrey, Jasper and me. This video shows the assault. Andrey was severely beaten and lost consciousness several times in front of police. Despite this, he was denied hospital treatment. He was put in an ambulance—but instead of being taken to hospital, he was taken to a police station. He is still there, arrested and being denied medical care. Jasper and I were also beaten. Jasper was then pepper-sprayed and arrested.

In this video, you can see Andrey losing consciousness. Yet he was taken to the police station instead of the hospital, and they’re keeping him there overnight.
THIS EVENING: Settlers attacked @the_andrey_x , @AdeleShoko , and @infinite_jaz near the closed gate at the entrance to the village of Umm al-Khair. Andrey suffered a head injury and repeatedly lost consciousness, but was taken to a police station instead of a hospital

Avigdor Liberman has largely cut off contact with opposition leaders Gadi Eisenkot and Naftali Bennett, according to Israel’s Channel 12. Liberman reportedly maintains his refusal to join a government led by Benjamin Netanyahu or support a minority government reliant on Arab parties. He expects pressure on Eisenkot to join a unity government with Netanyahu and would prefer that Eisenkot make the decision voluntarily, according to the report.

While much of the world watches the Israeli election results, counts seats, follows political alliances, and wonders what comes next, life in Gaza tells a very different story. This little girl arrived at Al-Rahma Clinic with painful burns on parts of her tiny body. She knows nothing of elections, political alliances, or politicians’ speeches. All she knows is that she is in pain. The world has moved from war to ceasefire, from ceasefire to elections, and from one headline to the next. But Gaza’s suffering has not followed the news cycle. The bombs may be falling less frequently, and politicians may now be busy counting votes. But children are still living among the ruins, bearing wounds, mourning loved ones, and enduring the consequences of a war that has taken almost everything from them. And as the world slowly grows accustomed to their suffering, there is something I fear almost as much as the suffering itself: that one day, we will look at a photograph like this and feel nothing. Look at this little girl. This is what a “ceasefire” looks like for her. The world may have moved on from Gaza. But Gaza’s children have not been given the chance to move on from what the world allowed to happen to them. #AlrahmaClinic
